My husband and I stayed in the sunset villa with a pool for 9 days. It was our first time being in the south Maldives and this resort exceeded our expectations. The welcoming when you arrive at Male makes you immediately feel at ease. It was nice to be able to sit in the lounge as we waited for our flight to Kooddoo. We were meet by the resort staff who made our check-in as smooth as possible as we had a long flight and were tired. Our sunset villa was beautiful and loved the pool to soak in after diving or snorkeling. We enjoyed having the viewing window in the room where we could watch the needle fish, picassco trigger fish, surgeon fish and baby black tip sharks. The snorkeling from the villa provided one with the ability to see black tip sharks, nurse sharks, turtles, spotted eagle rays, sting rays-including the cow tail sting ray, pipe fish, trumpet fish and once you got to the house reef the amount of coral and fish were incredible and in really good condition. We enjoyed and appreciated the bed decorations done by our housekeeper, Bawantha. We ate most of our meals at the Alida restaurant which had a wide array of food choices for each individual. We loved how the Alida restaurant provided different ethnic food each evening especially the local Maldivian, Sri Lankan and Asian cuisines. The pastries that were provided each day at breakfast would compete with any Michelin restaurant. The chefs were Anurudda, Desta, Rangana, Amith and Sugath and they need to be commended for the excellent cuisine they provided at each meal. They would come to your table to see if there was anything you needed or wanted. These chefs provided excellent food and were so personable that they made dining an experience each day. A special recognition needs to be given to the staff who work at Alida. The staff are professional, willing to make sure you have your needs met, are friendly and personable and made the dining experience enjoyable. We would like to recognize Dharmika, Abraham, Hassan, Shaheed, Alisha, Stefina, Nakala, and Kamal as these individuals went above and beyond to make sure we were happy and taken care of as well. I know I am missing a few names but the entire staff at Alida and Vista do a remarkable job of providing exceptional customer service. We are scuba divers and the dive shop, Suvadiva Dive Water Sports Center, is a top notch dive operation. Gracia is the manager and ensures that the smooth operation of this center along with it being safe. We dove each day and we had Agus as our dive guide for 6 dives before he left on his vacation. He provided excellent briefings, you knew your dive profile, provided information about each dive site as to what you may see along with the potential currents and dived the way we like to dive. He was very helpful with helping my husband with his BCD as he would put it on in the ocean. Then we had Imir for the remainder of dives. He is like Agus in that he is very experienced, provides excellent dive briefings, communicates effectively about the dive site and dives in the manner that we like to dive. If you are a scuba diver, would we would highly recommend you dive with this dive operation. We also want to give special recognition to our boat captain, Naseer, and boat crew, Matibul and MD:Rukraian. They did an excellent job in getting us to the dive sites and picking us up. We enjoyed the diving as it is very different than North Maldives as it is mostly pelagic. You will not be disappointed as you will see every kind of shark, green and hawksbill turtles, spotted eagle rays, cow tailed sting rays, morey eels, treavalies, jacks, Napoleon wrasse, damsel, fusiliers etc. The water is 30 degrees C and has great visibility. We also partook in the excursions that were offered. We did the dolphin excursion and saw spinner dolphins. We did the snorkeling excursion and were surprised by seeing a 5 m tiger shark! The jet ski experience with Shahid was amazing. He took me out to where we saw 500 spinner dolphins. It was an incredible experience. We would recommend any of these excursions as they are all well run and are very enjoyable. The Mercure Resort was an incredible experience. The assistance at the Male airport was not expected but was appreciated. We had a 40 hour flight back home but the memories of our experiences at this resort made the trip worth it. We will definitely come back for the diving, the staff, the excursions, and the ambience of this resort. Thank you to all of the staff at Mercure Kooddoo and look forward to seeing you again! The tranquility massage was amazing. They were very professional and they have donne exactly what was asked. The oriental song was good and very relaxing. Thank you to the very professional ladies Thip and Ribhaka who have done a fantastic work.

We went for our honeymoon over the New Year period and throughly enjoyed our holiday. Would highly recommend flying in and arriving as early as you can in Malé on your arrival date and booking your return flight as late as you can on your departure date as you will maximise your stay on the resort as the domestic connecting flights only depart three times a day. That being said, the private airport lounge you stay in on arrival at Malé was very nice and included food as part of the transfer cost. We stayed in a sunset facing overwater villa and it was everything that we expected. We would literally wake up and dive into the ocean off your balcony - it was surreal! We needed to verify our marriage on arrival with a wedding certificate to get the honeymoon package so we didn’t receive it until the second day. Great array of activities to do and I even took my wife on a PADI introductory dive plus other dives once she’d completed it. We were there for the NYE party as well (which was a small additional fee as part of the booking fee) and it was unreal. Food was incredible, endless seafood, decorations were extravagant and the DJ was great and funny too. Food was awesome and enjoyed all the different cuisines. We also got 4 x activity vouchers as we were staying for 8 nights so also consider how long you are staying so you can maximise your activity benefits because there is so much to do! In addition to diving, we went on snorkel tours, jet ski rides, kayaking, SUP, yoga, and plenty of relaxing around the pool. The marine life around the reef surrounding the overwater villas was incredible and definitely a highlight - turtles, reef sharks, eagle and manta rays, and plenty of colourful fish right off your balcony. Overall, we had an amazing stay and would highly recommend to anyone looking to go on their honeymoon.

The best holiday ever, and we could not fault the location, service or facilities. Perfect for a 10 day break. We stayed in a beach villa because of limited mobility and it was perfect. The staff were wonderful, the food great and you can do as much, or as little as you wish. We cannot recommend highly enough.

It was our first visit to the Maldives, and it exceeded our expectations. As soon as we landed in Male, we felt very welcome and taken care of. We were shown to the lounge where we waited for our next flight to Kooddoo island. Although it was a 4 hour wait between our arrival and our next flight, the lounge was comfortable with AC, WIFI, coffee and a breakfast buffet so time went by fast. When we arrived to Kooddoo island we were greeted by a resort staff member who drove us to the resort which was 2 minutes away. Once we arrived we were welcomed by all the resort staff with warmth. They also provided us with a cold towel and a drink. We were explained all the activities and excursions that were offered and other pertinent information for our stay. Our room was beautiful with an amazing view of the ocean, the amount of marine life that we saw from our terrace and viewing window on the floor at any given moment was priceless, this included dolphins, sharks, stingrays and schools of colourful fish. The one thing that we noted was that the AC was not able to cool the entire room and we needed to keep it full blast in order to work, for example it was warmer in the bathroom then the bedroom. Special mention to Jilani our housekeeper who kept our room spotless and surprised us with beautiful bed decorations that we truly appreciated. We ate mostly at the Alida restaurant which was fabulous for breakfast, lunch and dinner as it provided us with a wide variety of food choices. We loved the fact that they included authentic Maldivian, Sri Lankan and Asian Cuisine (to name a few). There was a good balance between spicy and non spicy food and catered to all kinds of tastes. However, a small suggestion would be to indicate with a label the dishes that are medium to very spicy. We tried the “a la carte” Italian restaurant Vista for a lunch and a dinner and it was also very good with great service as well. There was also a nice selection of wine in both restaurants. The service was excellent, special mention to Shiffa, Alisha, Abishek and Dharmika that always made sure that we had all our needs met. We also enjoyed talking to Nakala at the live station who always greeted us with a smile and explained us each dish, you can really tell that he loves what he does. Also, thank you to all the others that served us but we didn’t get the chance to take down their names. We enjoyed the pool bar during the day to take a quick rest or to relax after dinner. We loved the DJ and the music that he played, including the classics mixed with newer music. There was a big list of signature cocktails as well as the classic ones and the drinks were made very well. The barmen were amazing, they always made sure that our favourite drinks were always ready when they saw us and made sure we were happy. Special mention to Kamal, Kasun, Yukthi, Pubudu that went above and beyond to make sure our stay was extra special. The staff at the diving center were very nice and always made sure we were safe and secure ensuring that we had all the equipment that we needed. We tried many excursions, but the ones that stood out to us were the sandbank snorkelling excursion, where we saw the most beautiful coral reef and beautiful private sandbank to explore. The jet sky adventure was particularly amazing as our guide brought us in the middle of a fleet of hundreds of dolphins, it was truly an experience we will never forget. Thank you to our guides Shaffan and Shahid! :). We also did a one hour massage with a body wrap at the spa and it was excellent and we felt very relaxed after. The massage therapists were very professional and friendly. The spa itself was big and accommodating. All our requests were acknowledged and fulfilled. Every time we called for a lift somewhere, someone was at the door within 5 minutes which made a huge difference when we needed to get somewhere quickly. After checkout we were driven back to the airport by one of the resort staff members (I’m so sorry we forgot to note your name), he noticed that one of our luggage was cracked, he taped it up for us himself and wrote “handle with care”, which was super nice of him and greatly appreciated! Our 30+ hours travelling back home to Canada was definitely worth the trip and we look forward to coming back in the near future, it was unforgettable. Oh almost forgot to mention that it was sunny everyday and hot except for the day we were leaving (end of March) . Thank you to all the staff at Mercure Kooddoo Island and hope to see you soon!!!!
