Break away from bigotry

The staff are amazing in this hotel as Josh the bar person and Erica, the receptionist were supportive of my disabled and non binary intersex status as a member of the LGBTQI+ community. I am also an unpaid activist and so decided I needed a break to detox . I live in an area that’s toxic to minorities and so needed a break from constant hate . As another reviewer commented this hotel is a wee bit run down in places but I love 1970s brutalist buildings and this was a restful place to stay . Nice staff as mentioned and a massive standard room and a lovely breakfast that supported my pescatarian needs . Lots of nice young people in the hotel too as guests gives the place a friendly modern vibe and atmosphere. Yes a few worn carpets and desks that could do with a lick of paint but nothing major . The hotel staff are supportive to disabled people and the LGBTQI+ community,which is rare to find these days at a hotel . Retro building, supportive staff and restful, great beer and 14 year old whiskies served at the bar by Josh and so what’s not to like !

Kudos to all the staff for their exceptional service!!

We recently(14/04/24) hosted my baby shower at Buchanan Suit in Mercure Glasgow City Hotel. The authentic Indian cuisine and service were excellent. The entire staff(Praveen,Millie,Ellie,Calum) was incredibly helpful and accommodating. Head Chef Praveen and his team deserve special commendation for their outstanding job. Our guests were equally impressed by both the venue and the delicious food served during the event. I highly recommend this venue for hosting events based on our experience.

Good welcome at reception and from then on nothing was a problem. Room not too big but clean and all we needed for a break.Great location close to shops and restaurants and food we had was good. All staff from front desk,restaurant and cleaning were helpful and friendly. Look forward to return visit.

Our first time staying in this hotel and it was great. We were checked in slightly early which was fab and the room was spotless. Obviously if I dug out my magnifying glass I would have spotted a tiny bit of dirt or a small thread somewhere as some previous reviews always seem to do but for us I cant fault the place. Staff were super as was the breakfast in the morning (was a bit small tho). We wouldn't hesitate to book in here again.

The room was compact but comfortable and had all the required amenities. The bed was massive and lovely. The decor, particularly the ensuite was tired but the room was clean. As based in the heart of the city, the road traffic was noisy and early Monday morning I was woken by the local pubs emptying their glass bottle bins. Obviously this is not the fault of the hotel, but be aware of the location before booking. On my first night I found the room cold (end of March stay). This may have been a reflection of how tired I was though. On the second night I found the radiator was off so I turned it on and the room was a lot more comfortable. The food was lovely, though I would have liked more ‘healthier’ vegetarian options. I had a meal allowance so I had to eat in their restaurant for 2 nights. I ended up having the vegan curry the first night and the specials vegetarian 3 course meal the second night. The specials included homemade samosas to start, a paneer curry with homemade onion bhaji’s and rice pudding for dessert. Very tasty and delicious but I wouldn’t call it healthy. I would recommend though. The selection for breakfast was good and looked lovely, however I’m not a breakfasts eater so I can’t comment on the taste and quality. However, it was the staff that made my stay incredible. The lady in reception (Lynseyann) was so lovely, friendly and helpful. Upon request of a shower cap, she had one delivered to my room. She booked a taxi for me to collect me on the day of departure. The other staff were also lovely but Lynseyann really stood out. Overall this hotel was great for my 2 night business trip. The hotel was an 11 minute walk from the office I was visiting so perfectly located. The taxis from the airport to the hotel cost about £35 each way. I would highly recommend this hotel for either a business trip or a short city break.
