I'll start this by saying, I'm very biased toward Kangaroo Island, and American River. I've known the island most of my life, and that extends to American River, due to late family who lived there until they no longer could... The Mercure has gone through a couple name changes over time, but has not lost any of it's character. My thoughts of our stay... great spot, just a few metres away from the river, perfect for early risers (I'm usually not one, but was this time), great opportunities for watching a sunrise through the trees, or to see it coming across the water. The room was showing a little age, but by no means a detractor from the stay. Staff were exceptional, a credit to the property. The Bar / Lounge is perfect for adhoc dining, or a couple drinks after a day of sightseeing, and can also give a chance to sample a couple local wineries.. or the "house" wine from a SA based vineyard (I can certainly vouch for the quality) The only real detractor for the visit, was not due to the hotel... it's the roadworks from getting off the ferry at Penneshaw through pretty well the whole length of Hog Bay Rd

My stay was part of a 2 day tour of Kangaroo Island. What an amazingly beautiful place. The hotel exceeded my expectations. Rooms were comfortable and well appointed with some extra complementary snacks and drinks which was a lovely touch. The staff were friendly attentive and helpful. The glass fronted restaurant with a view out to the bay and delicious food was a real treat.

Lovely room, spotlessly clean, nice balcony to enjoy a cuppa and the view. We only stayed 1 night but would happily stay longer next time. Restaurant was so convenient and served delicious meals. very friendly and helpful staff.

After an exciting day exploring Kangaroo Island we were greeted by friendly staff at the Mecure Lodge. We had a large room with water view. Dinner and breakfast the next morning were excellent. We had a restful night’s sleep and were ready to continue exploring Kangaroo Island. Highly recommend.

Beautiful location and nice staff. Nice options for food and onsite. Helpful with transportation that was needed. Gorgeous views from the room and appreciated the welcome snacks and drinks. Would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.
