Stayed here as a family of 3 and the hotel was well equipped for families and the egg hunt was a nice touch. I wanted to mentioned Martyn at the front desk, as he has brilliant customer service and made our trip memorable. Thank you very much, you are a star and a credit to the hotel!

Quick check in and friendly staff, but rooms need improvement!

We first want to highlight that the check-in was very simple and straightforward. This meant we could settle into our room quickly, which was appreciated. The same could be said for the checkout, it was very prompt and meant we could leave to continue our day in Exeter. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and were accommodating to any changes we wanted to make to the room. However, the only way we could describe our room was shabby. There were marks all over the walls, and stains throughout the carpet. The fridge was also not particularly clean. Furthermore, there was a very unpleasant drain smell in the lobby of the hotel which made entering the hotel, not the most welcoming experience. We will say, however, that the bathroom was spotless. The room was relatively soundproof, and the blackout curtains were very good. The hotel is in an ideal location, and the staff are a credit to the establishment. But our room could be improved as it needed much TLC. We did not feel that the room was worth what was being charged considering the state of it.

The smell of drains upon entering the hotel foyer isn’t the best welcome, add to that there was a lady complaining about the ‘cleanliness’ of her bed linen when we were checking in, not the best start to a 4 night stay. The whole place needs a good clean and some fresh air throughout, the food is not worth the money, the furniture in the restaurant is tatty and worn, beds and pillows uncomfortable. Good points were that in the room there was a good shower with nice hot water and the air conditioning worked. We were also grateful to have an interconnecting room with a family member.

I have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions over the years, when visiting family in the area. This visit at the start of Easter has made me think about alternative hotels for future visits. The hotel has deteriorated over time and has seen better days. The room had mixed furniture, some quite old and past its best. The window was smashed and some of the expected amenities were missing. However, the shower was very good, hot water, good pressure and easy to use controls. The bed was large and reasonably comfortable and there was air conditioning but I did not use it. There were a few plug sockets but these were not located in easy to use places, ie not by the desk or bedside but in the middle of the room where there was no furniture to rest anything you might plug in. The reception area is better maintained but there was an awful smell, like drains, that did not clear during my stay. The location of the hotel is good, near the cathedral and main shopping street. There is a car park, the cost is £15 per day I believe but I did not use it. In the past I have received a charge for the car park even when not used and it has not been quick or straightforward to get a refund from what I believe (but may be wrong) is a separate company. In my opinion the hotel is in need of some refurbishment.

Room was nice very clean, the entire hotel had a pleasant feel, arrived 4 hours prior to check in was allowed to use parking. The bar was nice and the location was excellent very close to cathedral and shops. The only thing that let our room down was the very squeaky floor boards. Did not bother us but may have disturbed the room below. Will definitely stay again.
