Pre-cruise. Close to Asian, Italian, American food venues, shopping (H&R, Myer, etc) but HARD TO FiND. Used public transport to get here (skybus from airport then to tram at south station) but passes it up several times while on foot. Set in what you think may be an alley… but nice hotel….got fooled. Clean. Accommodating. Pleasant staff. Breakfast available in morning $25 pp, less for kids. Glorified buffet but worth it in the morning.

Had a 2-night stay here and will not be coming back. Its location is great, close to shops, restaurants, trams. Reception is pretty drab and impersonal. Nothing welcoming about it. The reception staff take a really long time to check you in, not sure why, and that was after checking in online. We walked into the first room and felt completely depressed. Awful, drab, dingy. Switched on the aircon, which was so noisy that we decided we would try and change rooms. Went back to reception and had to wait an age while they dealt with a couple of other people. Our turn finally came and the person on reception said he would check with his manager to see if we could change. After a period of time we did get a different room, but had to wait while it was "checked by housekeeping". We walked into the second room and felt completely depressed. Awful, drab, dingy. Crisps all over the floor (and this room had been checked!). Tried to call reception three or four times - no answer. Decided to go down, but came across a lady from housekeeping on my way to the lift, who very kindly got hold of a vacuum and cleaned the carpet for us. Later discovered that the carpet was wet and weren't sure if the fridge was leaking or whether it had come out of the bathroom where the water leaked out of the shower (there was very little room to move in the shower). The bed was hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom was very small. The aircon was still noisy and the furnishings were dated to say the least. Nothing warm or welcoming in the room. The fact that my partner has been an Accor member for many years counts for absolutely nothing and if this is how all Mercure hotels are, it is obviously best to avoid them. We'd also like to know where the picture of the room on the website comes from. Certainly not our experience.

Terrible experience with no care from the reservation or reception teams. Had one of the worst nights sleep I’ve ever experienced in a hotel. Very noisy, extremely uncomfortable bed and the air conditioning was far too noisy to run at night - even on low. My booking was for 3 nights. I rang reservations after the first night to explain the issues. I even offered to pay the difference to move rooms. Was assured a manager would call back. When I didn’t receive the promised call, I then spoke to reception who were aware of my request. They took down my number again with a promise for a manager to call. The manager never bothered to call. The bathroom was incredibly small, which I could deal with if the room was comfortable and suitably insulted to the external noise. Location is the only reason to give this hotel 1 star. Avoid, avoid, avoid. I won’t bother with the Accor chain after this experience and I’ll be flagging with my corporate travel agency to avoid making the same mistake for others.

If you want a good night sleep…. Don’t stay here. The place is run down, terrible service and does not pay to be an Accor plus member. At checkin the receptionist decided to move us to a room with a view. The view was of an alley and a building just meters from our window. The bed was the worse we’ve ever experienced anywhere in the world. We could feel the springs piercing in our back and when you moved you could hear the springs grinding. I used the room phone to call housekeeping… no answer, I tried calling reception… no answer… I tried calling the operator… no answer. After 8 attempts, I called the hotel from my mobile. We were told they would change the mattress. Housekeeping arrived 15 minutes later with a mattress cover, handing it to me scrunched up (it wasn’t even folded) with the expectation of us making up the bed. WTF!. In a moment of rage I headed down to reception and spoke to the manager, we moved rooms, it was a smaller room, noisier and the bed not much better. It was 1130pm. Terrible sleep woke up tired and couldn’t wait to get out of there. Through the whole awful experience we weren’t once acknowledged as Accor members.
