Ants & insufficient cleaning

Unfortunately after a long road trip I arrived in the hotel and while in bed I noticed something in my pillow: ants. I put some crumbs in a corner of the room and within seconds there were 5 to 10 ants around. Cleanliness was not ideal either, I did not have to use the upper bed, but stairs were not clean. The hotel has some time, but I have seen older hotels where cleaning standards were much better. And all of this amid a pandemic, where the chain claims higher cleaning standards. It took me 30 mins to find some way to get in touch, website faulty, not contact form available and finally through the mobile app I downloaded I had an email address. Apparently there was an emergency phone in the reception, but it was not at the reception but at the entrance instead. It did not occur to me to look there. I finally emailed the hotel during the night when I was thinking of spending the night in the car and the day after received a call to enquire why I did not see the ants before (when the personnel was available) and to convince me that ants were not linked to cleanliness. Not the response I was expecting. Nice personnel in the morning though, with empathy and understanding when I shared the experience. I will definitely not stop there again.

The smell of the room was very strong, I couldn’t sleep well because of the smell. The worst was at 1am someone open the door of our room while we were sleeping, someone who has the code to enter inside, I felt not save at all. The room could have been cleaner.

My first stay in an Ibis Budget and it was really not bad. A very friendly welcome from the guy at reception: a basic room, but a very comfortable bed; breakfast (a small additional charge) was far better than I expected with a great choice. In my view, excellent value for money.

We were a group of 14 wine visitors and needed somewhere with easy access to Vineyards around Narbonne and beyond. An ideal spot. Great service from Aurélie and her team. Helpful, efficient and great fun. Would recommend. Only recommendation is that you have an ice making machine for impromptu parties!
