Room was not ready when we arrived. The hotel gave us a complimentary drink at the bar, which was nice, but when we did reach the room the standard of cleanliness left a bit to be desired. Dusting is obviously not done and the bathroom definitely needs refreshing and was a bit grotty. Was expecting the hotel to provide robes and slippers, especially as we went to check out the pool and spa, but sadly none to be found. The pool area was stark and outdated and rather grim so we didn’t stay long. Other than that, the breakfast was nice, the staff were friendly and the location is great.

Over priced for what you get!

The Hotel experience was diabolical. From the moment we arrived our room wasn’t ready, no explanation just told we had to wait, was given a drink voucher but the bar was closed! 2 hours later we were shown to our tired old room. Chipped sink, no towels, old bath/shower, no plunger coffee, safe broken, furniture old, We changed for dinner and ate at the Atlas in house restaurant- it was terrible! Really bad food, bland, over cooked, slop! I can’t believe that the meals were put together by a qualified chef?? (This was the buffet) the next day we had no towels so couldn’t have a shower for hours, eventually we gave up and went out.. finally we got bath towels around 8pm. On check out the girl at the desk had no customer service skills whatsoever. The one saving grace was one front of house gentleman that managed to be kind and keep guests calm as he kept his cool with all the chaos going on. He needs a promotion! Goodness knows where the manager was hiding? Communication with guests would have been good. Shame on Novotel.

We wrote this review in July 2021 on the Accor website however it got removed, as they only display the most recent 20 reviews, which is weird. However I feel that everyone should be warned not to stay here. Our stay at Novotel Rotorua Lakeside was disappointing, marred by maintenance and cleanliness issues. We always stay here when visiting Rotorua, as the past stays have been great and the location is amazing - right next to Eat Street. We arrived at the hotel on a rainy day where we were shocked to see water buckets across the lobby due to several leaks from the roof. We appreciated the upgrade from a City View Twin Room to a Lakeview Twin Room (Room 525). We anticipated that this stay would be as great as the previous three stays, however this time was a total disaster. Only two out of three lifts were working and during this stay, both lifts’ controllers are not linked together (eg when the up button is pressed, only one lift responds, as the controls are not linked to the other lift. Sometimes the lift will stop at every floor, even when nobody is around. The lifts were working perfectly during the previous stays. Overall the room was not clean and dated, especially because the carpets were stained (penetrated dirt), worn out and housekeeping didn’t thoroughly vacuum the carpet edges. The carpets definitely need to be washed regularly and be replaced. The bathroom floor was sticky as well. The room was not well-litted even when all the lights were turned on (there were no ceiling lights in the room, only two bedside lights and a reading light on the desk and two lights in the room entrance). The bathroom extractor fan didn't work so the bathroom mirror was full of condensation after a shower and the bathroom was full of steam, which was annoying. However the room had a great view of Lake Rotorua, but the negatives of the room outweighed the positive. The Gym was renovated and it had a good amount of machines so that was a positive. The saunas in the swimming pool area were removed, which was really disappointing. The restaurant experience was dissatisfactory as since our last stay back in 2018 due to the lack of choices in the breakfast buffet and the restaurant staff overcharged us for the dinner buffet but after discussion with the reception staff, they refunded the overcharged amount. The prawn skewers and seafood served at the dinner buffet were really delicious which is another positive. When we checked out, another guest complained about their shower to the reception staff, which shows that maintenance is really poor at this hotel. Overall, our stay this time was not pleasant. The past three stays were amazing (during our first stay in 2015, they even upgraded us to Executive Suite 541 which was amazing and unforgettable in terms of the suite and service) I am surprised that despite there are many negative reviews, no renovations/improvements have been made. We are long time guests of the Novotel Auckland Ellerslie, we have stayed there nine times and all the stays have been amazing. No major issues, unlike this hotel, the hotel is clean, rooms are modern and well maintained. Staff are friendly and restaurant is great. When we last stayed there in 2023, they still retain their high standards. It is shocking that the quality among Novotel Hotels are inconsistent. Stay at the Novotel Auckland Ellerslie if you are visiting Auckland. So until the hotel has gone through a major renovation, we won’t stay here again. Value - 1/5 Rooms - 1/5 Cleanliness - 1/5 Service - 3/5 Food - 3.5/5 Location - 5/5

地理位置方便,下楼就是湖边,但是酒店太老旧了,工作人员服务态度也一般,毫无热情,也不会主动打招呼。打电话给前台想给孩子要个牙刷,拨打很多次,根本打不通。退房那天有一个电梯还坏掉了,电梯里有小朋友吓得哇哇哭,我女儿都不敢坐电梯下楼了。

A Mixed Experience at Novotel Lake-side Rotorua

Rating: 3/5 My recent stay at Novotel Lake-side Rotorua was a bit of a mixed bag. While I found the staff and manager on duty to be incredibly friendly and attentive, there were some notable areas that could use improvement. Firstly, I have to commend the staff for their warm and accommodating service. From check-in to check-out, they made me feel welcomed and attended to my needs promptly. Especially Gruinder, the manager on duty, i would like to him thumbs ups for his warm and accommodating services, despite the fact that we have arrived slightly earlier than check-in time and he was the only staff on site, he not only offered to assisted us in signing up the ALL membership but also to check our luggage at the counter to improve our traveling experience. Having said the above , I was disappointed by the cleanliness of the room. Upon arrival, I noticed some areas that were not as tidy as I would have expected. The bathroom, in particular, could have been cleaner, which detracted from my overall comfort during the stay.Furthermore, I found some of the in-house rules to be too loose stringent and not clearly communicated. A good example is when many of us were enjoy the relaxing time at the pool and thermo spa sides whilst some teenager where playing soccer at the pool-side, we were all very uncomfortable and worried that the soccer ball may go out of control and hit us. Thus, It would be beneficial for the hotel to provide clearer guidelines to guests to avoid any confusion or misunderstandings. Overall, while the staff's hospitality was commendable, the cleanliness and clarity of in-house rules left something to be desired. With some improvements in these areas, Novotel Lake-side could provide a more consistent and enjoyable experience for guests.
