Another solid Novotel

I have Accor loyalty status so try to stay at an Accor hotel as much as possible especially when traveling in Europe. I also require a fitness room so on this trip to Rotterdam, the Novotel Brainpark was really the only option even though it was not city center. Arrival from Rotterdam Centraal took about 30 minutes and check in was quick and even though we were early, got our room and we were upgraded to an executive room. Which was great but apparently they don’t restock the mini bar every day. Yet, in a regular room you get restocked water? I even asked just for more water and nothing. Curious as well that we were given extra slippers without even asking. The room itself was fine, bed comfortable pillows not great but we asked for more and were accommodated. Bathroom was small but nothing really to complain about since we were in an executive room with lotion and conditioner (actually planned for skimpy amenities and packed lotion and conditioner). Fitness room would have been a highlight given that there was decent and functional equipment alas no water fountain and the disinfecting wipes were dried out. That said, there were plenty of sweat rags. Even with my minor gripes, I would return again to the Novotel Brainpark.

I have very mixed feelings about this hotel. Liked the room and the view. Didn’t like much else. Overall good value for money. The room was very good. Big, clean, nice panoramic view, comfortable bed. No Closet, just a rack with a few hangers, which is fine for a short business trip. Breakfast was very good. However, never have I ever been to a hotel where I couldn’t adjust my room temperature to more than 3 degrees lower or higher than the set hotel temperature. Never have I ever been to a 4 star hotel that doesn’t offer amenities at all, except a wall mounted hand soap and shampoo bottle. Never have I ever been charged for a pair of slippers at a 4 star hotel. It is not about the money, but it’s very “cheap” on their behalf, to say the very least. Lastly, dinner at their restaurant was the worse meal I have had in a very long time.

Poor hotel

I’ve stayed at the Novotel a few times over the last 5 years and it’s certainly gone down hill . This time I was on the 9 floor and as soon as I opened the door I got a musty smell . On closer inspection I found mould under the window . This was more than daily mildew but big black areas . I did report this to the receptionists and they seemed very surprised and were going to tell the cleaning staff . I have mentioned this to work colleagues and they have had similar experiences so it can’t be the first time someone has mentioned this . Evening meal was a buffet which was poorly maintained, dried out and not kept stocked . I won’t be staying there again .

Good clean hotel that seems to have had the room recently refurbished. Some further refurbishments in progress and I hope they get to the restaurant eventually as that has become tired. Breakfast is fine, quite automated and characterless but adequate. All staff friendly and efficient.

Excellent stay and wheelchair accessible rooms. Excellent breakfast and helpful staff. The only negatives were paper cups in rooms, no teaspoon, and no uht milk for drinks. Powdered milk makes coffee taste bad. The building site starting at 7:15 each morning wasn't very good, however this is not the fault of the hotel and it didn't affect our stay. I've booked again for next year.
