Great stay here, a bit expensive but it is amazing, breakfast was very nice and meals in the bar were lovely, the Italian restaurant wasn't great though

Overall this is a lovely hotel with mostly extremely courteous and friendly staff. It is with retreat that i need to leave this poor review and would not have done so if i felt the complaint I made was being managed appropriately by The fairmont. Check In valet parking and reception welcome were excellent. Room 2091 was nice enough, however, it was dated. There was only one tea option in the room and when i went to reception to ask for Earl Grey or Ginger/Lemon tea, i was told it would be brought up. They arrived but only with jasmine and peppermint as that is all they had ! The furniture was chipped and dated and the mirror was far too high above the writing desk meaning no dressing table. The bed was comfortable. The Spa - wow what a let down! The steam room is out of order (no one mentioned this) there was not enough seating around the pool, this was talked about a lot when we were there. The pool was freezing - so cold a lady had to remove her children. The costume dryer was broken - both men and women's! There are hairdryers but no straightens, facial tissue or cotton wool or anything like you find at Trump hotels or Cameron House. This is a comparative hotel but lacks the extra luxury. It could have been a holiday inn changing room. It did not feel like a luxury hotel. La Cucina - this restaurant was very nice and the waitress Fifi was superb. However, there are only 2 bathrooms and they are mixed for men and women. Both times o had to use the facilities they had raised toilet seats with urine on the loo and unflushed. Disgusting!! Sports Bar, we wanted to watch the golf after dinner, the bar was unattended and had to use the main bar for drinks. We sat and there was used but bowls sitting over the tables (we didn't get any nuts offered with our drinks) Golf - we only used the range as the weather was wet, it was enjoyable and the golf pro shop was nice with friendly staff. Breakfast - the food was lovely, however, it was fairly quiet and we did have to wait about 5 minutes before being shown to a table. The cup I had was tea stained. Check out - well i had listed my complaints and provided these to Adam at reception. He didn't even apologise - he said he would rewrite them and send an email to the departments (which he did and told me he had and that email contained an apology). We then had to ask for a copy of the bill to check, glad we did as it was wrong! My mum had put a bottle in the room as this was to celebrate my birthday. However, they had included this onto the bill with a service charge. This really was the last straw, I shouldn't have seen this transaction, he agreed to remove the cost and said it shouldn't have been on there (again no apology). An apology was not offered and we were not offered any compensation for our experience. We love golf and would have returned if the complaint had been resolved to a level of satisfaction, but to date we have saw no offer of resolution or even acknowledgement of the hotels failings. If you are looking to book this hotel, i would recommend the old course hotel or Hotel Du Vin, hotels that know how to take care of guests and ensure their facilities are well maintained.

We enjoyed our stay it was just a few small things that should have been better

I just think when you go to a 5star hotel you expect the little things to be great and I just thought they were lacking in this department ie having cold plates out for hot food at breakfast and having a dirty knife on our table!

Knackered after 7 holes

Course in poor condition as a result of heavy rain. As a result buggies had to stick to the cart path. Unfortunately none told me that for most of the holes you cant even see the fairway, never mind your ball. As a result, I probably did more walking than the guys I was playing with, who were using their trolleys. This was a big problem as I am disabled and can not walk very far at all. After 7 holes I was shattered at which point the Marshall, Gordon, took pity on me and arranged for my buggy to be allowed on the course. Why was this not done from the beginning? When I asked? A very uncomfortable day which was not made any better when the course manager told me he couldn't redesign the course for me. I will not be back.

Screaming children ruined it

Massage was great, facilities were great… 2 massive stars removed for the several screaming children. A SPA is meant to be relaxing; if bratty children need to use the facilities then there should be a specified hour for that that the adults can choose to avoid. The pool and change rooms were absolute chaos! I ended up leaving more stressed and annoyed than when I came in… which made the over-priced bill even harder to swallow..
