A lovely hotel. Staff were all very friendly and efficient. A special mention to Francesca on reception who was really accommodating in getting us a light airy room with special touches in the room and at dinner for our wedding anniversary. It was nice to be greeted by someone happy and friendly when you arrive. Food was really good and Bowden Hall honey was delicious, so much so we took 2 jars home! Would definitely recommend.

Stayed on a sparkling escape deal which was good value for money. Classic room was spacious and comfortable although carpet was worn in places and the chairs were a bit stained. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. However we ate twice in the restaurant and were very disappointed. The first night I had the pork loin steak with hassleback potatoes, red cabbage and broccoli. The red cabbage was very nice but the potatoes were overcooked and soggy and it was all pretty tasteless. My husband has the pie which was OK. We decided to try again this evening, I had the katsu curry which came with rice and pickled red cabbage (strange?) The rice was seriously overcooked, I suspect boil in the bag? The chicken burger thingy was dry and overcooked and the curry sauce tasted as if it was out of a jar. My husband had the mushroom and truffle linguine which he said was OK but nothing special, the prices charged are about what you would expect from a Mercure hotel but the quality of the food is sadly lacking. Would not stay here again.

Afternoon Tea

Booked for afternoon tea as my husband had recovered a voucher. Emailed to enquire about times and dealt with Vicky the events executive, who was helpful and organised the booking, took details of our voucher and asked about allergies When we arrived, we were seated and our name taken. The waitress then came back 5 minutes later to say no record of our booking (no idea why after several emails to book) but the chef would make it up and it would take about 10 minutes Just over 45 minutes after we were seated it arrived. Sandwiches nice, usual filings of egg, cheese, ham and tuna - nothing overly special. Nice little small scone. Cakes very disappointing - 3 tarts with different filing all with very thick sodgy pastry and 1 tiny coffee sponge. Have had several afternoon teas at different places with lovely selection of cakes, so this was quite a let down. Only good things - young girl waitress was lovely, very polite, very nice setting and grounds and we didn't have to pay as had a voucher!

Lovely hotel in a nice setting with wonderful staff made for a great stay. We stayed over a very busy and obviously challenging weekend for the staff who dealt with all the challenges in a very professional manor. Great staff made the stay and we would definitely stay here again.

Bowden Hall came to our rescue when our wedding planning was going far from perfect!! This wonderful venue, literally made us feel at home as soon as we walked into it and we knew instantly we wanted this venue more than anything! Thankfully our date was available and it didn't take much discussion with my now husband that we wanted to book here! Vicky and Chelsea have been amazing through the planning of our wedding and finalising every detail, even from keeping the secret of the singing waiters I had booked from my husband also!! When one of our friends hadn't booked a room, Vicky was on it and it got sorted! On the day we were looked after by Rachel who made us feel at ease and was always there to update us in the day of the next thing happening or to rescue myself with my change of shoes!! The rest of the team were also brilliant throughout the day, helping guests and making sure my bouquet was put in my room in water. Nothing was too much for them and we thoroughly enjoyed our day from start to finish! I have been told I was a very chilled out bride by my friends and I can honestly say that is because of this wonderful venue!!
