Avoid room with interconnecting door at all costs

Lauren H รีวิวที่ได้รับการรับรองจาก TripAdvisor

Wonderful location but stay spoiled a bit by a lot of small annoyances. We arrived at 3.30pm and there was about a 30 min wait to check in. I can live with that and accept it was a prime time but I was really upset when I asked the main reception if I could use the Accor member check in line (as a member) and was told no, everyone needs to use the one line at peak check in time, and then saw at least three men swan into that line and get served without waiting while I as a female with a tired child languished in the main line. How unfair and not a good start! Once I finally got to check in the process was good. Got to room (private patio room 140) which was lovely and nice view. I noticed the locked interconnecting door and that a lot of noise seemed to be coming from under the door but that wasn’t a major problem until the next morning. Went to the cafe adjacent to reception and ordered hot chocolates and cakes from the cabinet (they don’t do Devonshire tea so if you see anything on their website that they do it’s not accurate). Ended up waiting about 30mins for the hot chocolates which was annoying as we wanted to get outside to take sunset photos but the quality was reasonable. Still no sign of the cakes by the time we finished the drinks. We ended up asking a waiter I said since the cakes were just pre made can’t I just come up and get them myself instead of waiting for ages longer. He brought them 5 mins later and apologised - the long wait was due to a lack of plates which doesn’t make sense to me, would have been happy to have it on the side of my hot chocolate saucer instead of waiting 30 mins. Cakes were nice. Grounds of hotel very pretty and good opportunities for autumn photos. Got to see the ponies and nice playground. Dinner was room service (two cheese burgers and a kids fish and chips) and the quality was fairly good although strangely one of our adults burgers arrived on a smaller plate with fewer chips. The ordering system said 40 mins but it was just over an hour which is understandable for a public holiday. Went to the indoor pool at 8.30pm and it was empty which was fantastic and we really enjoyed the pool, spa and sauna. Bed was comfortable but the sleep was rudely interrupted by a massive argument by the couple in the next room that started just before 7am , we could hear everything through the interconnecting thin door and it was aggressive and went on for about an hour. It was actually very upsetting and not a good way to be woken up on holiday, just when I was about to call the reception to see what could be done it stopped when they loudly announced it was time for them to go to breakfast but by then there was no hope of us getting back to sleep. This is the kind of experience I would expect in a low class motel in a sketchy area not an expensive resort. We went to breakfast at 9am and found the buffet to be great , good food and good selection and replenished often. We had a school holiday activity hair braiding appointment booked for 10.20 and that was wonderful (book these activities early as many were turned away) although took over an hour (totally fine by me) but by then we had been locked out of our room (was expecting it to maybe take 30 mins giving us time to brush teeth back in room before leaving). The ladies doing the braiding and nails were amazing! Love their work! So wonderful and kind - kudos to them. Over the phone the reception was fine about us checking out half an hour late due to the hair braiding but I was a bit upset that the same reception man that didn’t allow me to use the member check in made a big deal about me not being able to show him my id to get back into my room when we got locked out due to expired keys, (handbag was in room) had the keys in my hand and could tell him my name , room and all details so it was not like we didn’t have proof of having been there. Would expect better for the money paid. Was not asked how my stay was when checking out but thought - why not - I’ll give unsolicited feedback and the reception staff member did apologise about the noise but said as they are full the conditions aren’t ideal at the moment and recommended requesting quiet room with no interconnecting door next time. Overall would consider returning as lots of an activities for kids, lovely location and views and many of the staff were amazing but would only go if they could guarantee room with no interconnecting door as to me it feels unsafe now. I want to emphasise I have no issue with kids noises as I have a kid myself but adults who have no consideration and have aggressive arguments at 7am are awful, and the hotel really needs to put sound proofing on interconnecting doors.

Shocking service bad attitude filthy room.

The customer service displayed was appalling. I never expected such treatment at an Accor property. The executive manager’s rudeness mirrored that of the front-line staff. Upon arrival, the front desk couldn’t locate my booking, wasting nearly 10 minutes repeatedly questioning me where I made booking. When I advised I booked through accor website as I am a member she still couldn’t locate my booking. I had to run back to my car to retrieve my phone. Despite being assured my room was ready at 1:30 and my luggage already in it, I found the room empty. Even after lodging a complaint, my luggage didn’t arrive until an hour later, the manager assured the luggage with me soon but didn’t arrive until 3:30 . The room was not only worn-out but also filthy, with hair left in the bed and a dusty phone and light Avoid this place if possible; I wouldn’t return even if you paid me.

Great experience for a special occasion

This review is only for the HighTea as we live locally. We chose this experience to celebrate my sisters birthday. When we arrived we were greeted and shown to a beautifully set table with white linen cloth and napkins and lovely patterned china. The windows were open as it was a lovely day and the view was spectacular. We had the standard high tea with tea or hot chocolate and requested several refills of our drinks. The food was fresh, tasty and beautifully presented and the staff were friendly and attentive. A family at the next table had the children’s afternoon tea for their two boys which was absolutely lovely. We will definitely be looking for another excuse to go again as it was comparable with afternoon teas we’ve had in London - but the view was better.

Dear X6044GTsharons, Thank so much for the amazing review, so glad you enjoyed your time with us. It was great to see that High Tea was a highlight for you, and you enjoyed the spectacular view on offer. Hopefully we can welcome you back again soon. Kind Regards, Charlie Young General Manager

A quiet weekend in the Mountains

This hotel seems to have an identity problem. It is hard to run an upmarket hotel with kids wondering everywhere. It is centainly not the place to come for a quiet romantic weekend but if you have kids and plenty of money go for it. Fortunately we had one child in our party who enjoyed the place. At a price. It is a giant theme park with several rooms of slot machine games next to the kid's play gym area. Bring your money with you. Our toddler enjoyed the little train ride around the grounds. The pool area is good and well used the weekend we were there. The grounds are extensive and pleasant to stroll in. The new tyre ski run is very panoramic but rather spoilt the view from our room. Our room was quite comfortable but seemed a little tired. It was away away from kid city so we slept quite well. There were several options for food but the bar area was more a casual family spot handy when you don't want to drive into Leura for a quick snack. The food was reasonable. Breakfast provided a large selection but was fairly average for this level of hotel. For the price it could be better but I guess all those kids make the most of it. We had an evening meal in the main restaurant. The food was fine though a limited selection and not really good value. The service was patchy. The view is the best thing about this venue. Later we discovered the Whisky Bar which is a great undergraound bu nker for adults only!

Dear 933Traveller933, Thank you for taking the time to complete our guest satisfaction survey following your recent stay with us at the Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains. It was very pleasing to see there were aspects of your stay that were enjoyable. I am sorry however that some areas did not meet your expectations. We do aim to balance the children's activities onsite with the adult only venues, like the Two Doctors Whiskey Tavern you mentioned, as well as our Ubika Day Spa, and No. 1 Sublime Point fine dining restaurant. We'll take your feedback on board to see what else could be done in the future in this regard. Thank you again for taking the time to send through your feedback. Adult’s retreat turned child’s playground

Review From the moment we pulled into the driveway and saw an unmanned commissionaire desk, we knew we were in trouble. Checking in did nothing to improve this perception, with the receptionist informing us our credit card was held only in case we ran out on the bill (and was unable to confirm the hold amount). Our room was comfortably if shabbily appointed, with a beautiful view of the blue mountains and the giant bright rainbow slide in the foreground really complimenting it. The sound proofing was non existent, and I was overjoyed to discover the advertised luxury resort was, in fact, a child’s playground. The children’s entertainment was confusingly priced and many of the adult entertainments suffered from a lack of maintenance. Our TV had no services from the 21st century, and were told a helpful tip to make it work was turning it off and on again at the power point. This certainly didn’t diminish our enjoyment of the 90s adult movies on offer ($15.95-$19.95 for premium). The paint is stained, fading, and peeling. The pool has chunks missing from its seal. Weeds are in abundance. The koi fend for themselves, surviving on stray ducks. The billiards tables are dusty and have tears in them, surrounded by beautiful caricatures of previously hosted world events. There’s a model train set and a marionette structure in the art gallery. The library is giving men’s only smoking club. The tennis court umpires seat will fall over in a stiff breeze. The food is undoubtably the best part about this place, which isn’t saying much. The staff are likely from the local hospitality school, and it shows they have had no leadership, guidance, or training from Fairmont. The restaurants are all bookings recommended, and upon approach seeing the three quarters empty restaurant, were told we’d be added to the wait list. We waited in the bar, primarily offering beers from the hotelier’s brewery (that’s what people in biz call vertical integration, baby!). The ember restaurant took about 30min to take our order once seated, then everything ran smoothly, if for small portion sizes. A lack of care is evident in all the small details. The boarded up fire place with fire logs creating the illusion it’s still in use. The bizarre paintings gracing the entrance hall, making you wonder if pianos can walk on water. The empty key hooks at reception with discarded detritus as it’s only adornment. The huge empty space in our room, clearly for a rollaway, without even a chair to take the space. Particularly grating is the small tiny text on the welcome instructions informing us a $1 per night charity donation will be automatically added to our stay, and if we don’t want it on our bill, to inform them on check in, which has since passed. Some investigation reveals this as the hotelier’s charity, which appears to fund their pet project museum. A worthy cause, indeed. This once adults lodge has clearly been converted into a child’s paradise. Any investment that could have gone toward upkeep and maintenance has instead been directed to the pony stables, the arcade, the giant slide, the train. This makes it a perfect getaway for families with children under ten, with onsite accomodation, varied entertainment, and food options, a rarity in today’s market. It’s a sad visit for adults seeking refreshment and relaxation. The best entertainments on offer for us are bushwalks in the adjoining national park. The staff were all trying their best with what they had, and housekeeping was also excellent, but the lack of leadership, direction, and support for their staff is really obvious. We were there over an Easter weekend - I’d hate to think how it is in quiet periods.

Dear 695laurenf, Thank you for taking the time to send through feedback on your stay. We appreciate the comprehensive account and can quite easily clear up some misconceptions you appear to have with the offerings available at the resort. Please do reach out to me directly at charlie.young@fairmontresort.com.au, as I would appreciate discussing this with you in person. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind Regards, Charlie Young General Manager
