Lovely relaxing stay outside of Essaouira

Had an amazing and relaxing stay here. The staff are so friendly and helpful, thanks to Taha and Imess at reception who helped us book taxis and print our boarding passes. Although the hotel is slightly out of town, there are regular shuttles into Essaouira which makes it super convenient to go in for a stroll or dinner. The fact the hotel isn’t in town also means it’s super quiet and surrounded in nature for when you want to just chill by the pool. All the rooms have incredible views too. Would come again!

Our MONEY (450 Euro & 2600 Moroccan Dirham) got stolen by the cleaning staff from our hotel room!!

I stayed with my husband in Sofitel Essaouira from 22nd Feb to 24th Feb, 2024 in room - 431 (for 2 nights). Our stay was looking fine until after check-out when we realized that some of our money from our handbag was stolen during our stay in the hotel. We had kept some reserved money in a wallet, which was kept inside a handbag. When we checked out from Sofitel and were on our way from Essaouira to Casablanca in a bus, we checked that wallet and found that some of our money (450 Euros and 2600 Moroccan Dirham) was stolen from my wallet. Whichever hotel staff stole the money from the wallet was smart enough to steal only part of the money to avoid any kind of suspicion in case if we would have roughly looked at the money and not counted it properly. It was our mistake that we didn't keep this handbag inside the room locker, but the main reason for not keeping the handbag inside the locker box was that we put 'Do Not Disturb' sign all the time during our stay and we didn't expect that someone will enter the room despite the DND sign and will steal our money in a hotel like Sofitel!! Let me provide some other details to support this fact that money was actually stolen from my hotel room on the day of check-out just before our check-out time. On second day of our stay (23rd Feb), we actually carried this handbag with us to the hotel restaurant during breakfast and mistakenly we left the handbag on our breakfast table, and we left the restaurant. We realized our mistake just after few minutes and when we returned to the restaurant, we came to know that one of the staff members submitted our handbag to the reception, so we went to the reception and received our handbag from there. After returning to our room, we verified everything kept inside the bag and we found that the entire money was present there safely and when we checked-out next day (24th Feb), we found that some amount was stolen from the handbag. So, there is no doubt that the money was stolen from our room on the day of our check out (24th Feb), when we were walking around the hotel after our breakfast, and we left our handbag in the room (another reason of leaving the handbag in the room on this day was because we had forgotten the bag on breakfast table the day before, so we thought that the bag is safer in the room with DND sign on) As the money stolen was a significant amount, we called to the hotel to report this theft and also officially sent an email to register our complaint. I requested them to check the camera footage and the room key access logs to verify who entered our room and we even provided them the time window when we suspected that the theft might have happened. After my regressive follow-ups, the Assistant Director General of Sofitel, Zhirou EL ANTARI confirmed that they checked the room access key logs and one of the chambermaids entered our room during the time window which we reported, but he continuously kept mentioning in each of his email that this female employee has been working with them since long and they trust her. I raised several queries, like why she entered the room when there was DND sign on the room? what did she do inside the room because when we came back, the room was exactly the same, so obviously there was no cleaning done? I requested Mr. Zhirou to respond to me on each point and he kept on repeating the same point that they trust this lady and he didn't respond to any of my queries. He mentioned that this chambermaid entered our room to verify if we had already checked-out, which is very much suspicious. To my knowledge, the cleaning staff only enter any room after getting the indication from reception that the room has been checked-out, they don't enter any room randomly to check if the guests have checked out or not. Mr. Zhirou even responded that our room didn't have any DND sign on the day of check-out, which is a white lie. As Sofitel has electronics/digital way of putting the DND sigh through a switch, so I requested to provide me the logs of DND. I also requested them to provide me the room key access logs so that I can verify how long this chambermaid was inside my room, but they bluntly refused to provide any kind of logs or reports and kept on repeating the same lines again and again that this cleaning lady was inside the room just to check if we had checked-out or not and she didn't steal any money. During this entire long communication, the people who were in loop of all the emails were "EL ANTARI Zhirou", "BENJELLOUN Nabil", "ELAARABI Mariam", "IDRISSI Yousra", "EssaouiraMogador.Reservations@sofitel.com" & "H7145-GM@sofitel.com". This is highly disappointing and sad that they are clearly not being honest and transparent. Even if they probably have identified and found out about this theft, they are not accepting it. If they were true and if there was no theft happened in their hotel, they certainly must have shared the DND report and room access logs with me without any fear, rather than making all the lame excuses like it is not allowed to share such kind of confidential information and all. I told them that I am asking for logs and report only for my room (room no.- 431) and only for the duration when we stayed in the hotel and I am not asking for details of any other room or for any other dates, but they certainly didn't agree for obvious reasons!! I WILL NEVER STAY IN THIS HOTEL AGAIN AND ALSO WANT TO BEWARE OTHERS. THE STAFF IN THIS HOTEL ARE NOT HONEST AND EVEN THE MANAGEMENT IS SUPPORTING THEM. I AM TRAVELLING SINCE LAST 15 YEARS AND HAVE STAYED IN HUNDREDS OF THE HOTELS ACROSS THE GLOBE, BUT THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT MY MONEY WAS STOLEN FROM MY ROOM IN ANY HOTEL. I already know that somebody from Sofitel will respond to my review in a very vague and lame manner repeating the same line that they had done all the investigation and verification and found that the chambermaid was honest and that they couldn't share the details with me because it was confidential and against their policy to share these details, IRONY!!

Incredibly beautiful hotel with a nice golf and sea view. The food is wonderful, the setting is stunning and the staff are so friendly. A smile and chat with Soyad and Niaama. Superb and delicious breakfast . It's my second time here and we ll definitely be back.
