Vile hostel

Couldn’t wait to leave the next morning. To use the term hotel is not the right description. This is a hostel. The room was dingy, poorly decorated, unclean to the point where I saw human faeces on the toilet roll holder. Absolutely disgusting. Towels that I wouldn’t even touch let alone use with black marks on them. A bed that wasn’t made and no pillow. When I went to reception to ask for one I was told they’d look for one and if they had any it would be brought up to the room. The pillow never arrived. I will NEVER step foot in these hotel rooms again. I couldn’t sleep and wished the night away. Such poor standards and how are people leaving their human waste on fittings and I know it’s a terrible job, but the cleaner didn’t clean it up. If it was warmer. I’d have opted for sleeping in the car. The woman on reception was very friendly. That’s the only plus. My skin is still crawling.

Rated this a 2 star as I see it fitting for a 2 star hotel. Taking into consideration its a budget hotel, it's exactly what is expected. I just want to add my feelings and experience as honest as I can. Can't complain about the layout of the room, as you know what your getting, so that's fine. The cleanliness was concerning, as even as a budget hotel, there's no excuse for it being dirty. The bedding had hairs all over it, luckily I bought my own pillow slips as I always do anywhere I stay, otherwise I would have struggled to sleep in the bed. I slept on top on the bed as I didn't want to get in it. Thankfully, the room was very warm. The TV didn't work, the volume kept turning up loud and then quiet constantly on its own. I had a child with me therefore we did have some down time in the room at night, so it was annoying to not be able to watch anything for those last hours of the night before sleeping. The top bunk bed didn't have a bottom sheet on it, just a plastic mattress topper, which I would not make my child sleep on, luckily I only had 1 child so they could sleep in the double bed. There was very concerningly what looked like smeared human waste on the skirting board of the toilet near the door. I didn't want to inspect to confirm my suspicion and was too tired and just wanted to get the night over with without fuss, but it was although someone had defecated on the floor and the cleaners missed a bit. There were a lot of obvious drug addicts staying in the hotel, so it makes you wonder if before checking in, it was a drug den thats been given a wipe over before you stay in it. Breakfast was some squashed croissants and warm juice. A bit of cereal and toast. Lots of addicts walking about during breakfast. The reception is like a youth hostel, in the way it's decorated and how there's table football and bean bags about. Just gave a youth club vibe. The receptionists were nice however, and they arrange a taxi for you and its there in under a minute. There's no problem storing bags before and after check in. I would recommend this hotel for a 1 night stay, and ideal for collapsing drunk after a night out so that you don't see your surroundings clearly enough to care.

Been travelling to Brum for years to see cricket at Edgbaston. All the flea tips I have stayed in is better than here. Uncomfortable bed, TV and lights don't work, after you spend 10 minutes trying to get into your room as the locks don't work. Very noisy so earplugs required.

This is a budget hotel and so it is important to manage expectations. The staff were brilliant - friendly, helpful and kind. Ibis should be proud! The room was clean and tidy. Simple but functional. The blackout blind was fab and the room was quiet. Great location. My only niggle was the bed and the bedding. The pillows were thin as was the duvet. The mattress was also thin and it was tricky to get comfortable. Not the best couple of sleeps I’ve had but I’ve have had a lot worse! If you are doing Birmingham on a budget, this is a good choice.
