Not up to Novotel Standard - still under renovation

Normally i am a fan of the Accor brand. That is why it is especially disappointing that a Novotel in a metropolis like Shanghai is so poor. I heard already that the Hotel is under renovation. This is still true, so no swimming pool for example, and really weird routes, e.g. you have to walk through 30 meters of construction site ( empty space) to get to the “Restaurant” at the 50 th floor. I only had breakfast there, but it is HORRIBLE. Supposed to be stylish because of its location, it lacks any finesse or cosiness. You feel like in factory canteen. Also do not expect any fresh baked goods, like croissants. Another real issue was the number of the elevators. To get from the Restaurant in 50th floor to the exit on ground floor takes easily 15 minutes in the morning …the elevators stop at nearly every floor, it was just so annoying. The “Lobby” of the Novotel is in the fifth floor and there is basically nobody, so the Hotel lacks a Central Area where you can sit, enjoy a coffee and watch the world go by. To be fair: Once you are in your room, the Novotel is okay. Yes, my room was a bit torn, but it was clean, the bed was large, the work place is decent and the view towards the Pudong Shanghai Towers is absolutely awesome. Still, I would not book the Novotel im Shanghai again.

This hotel is under renovation and for this reason it makes no sens to go there. The nice premier lounge is closed. My room number 4518 has a nice view of Shanghai but for the rest it needs urgently done renovation as well. Painting in the bathroom is almost getting down, carpet in the room is old. For the rest, room is soundproof.

It was my second time visit to this hotel. Visiting China after 3 years of pandemic restrictions. It was nice. The facility is a bit old but has been a landmark and modernised. The revolving restaurant in the top floor is a great attraction not to be missed. Had a nice view of Shanghai and Huangpu River from the room and those moments are to be cherished carried on. The foreigners market near the Museum is also nearby and can be quickly accessed by taxi.

Only stay here if you like construction sites

Hotel is under renovation. No services available besides cold breakfast.gym is closed, swimming pool is closed. Restaurants are closed. Proper hotel lobby is closed. Non smoking rooms smell like smoke. Very hard to get through building site to enter hotel. Heating is overrated for common spaces, so wear your jacket everywhere. Hallways are dirty and dusty from building dust

I've been stuck here for already one month, during my business trip to Shanghai. Following services are suspended: - All the restaurants, bars and shops - Laundry - Room cleaning / garbage collection - Swimming pool / gym etc. Room prices are fully charged, although this place is deep below the 4-star standard. With no option of leaving or talking with the management, I can only complain online. Even sending this review took me all afternoon, since WiFi in the room is too slow. So slow that it's impossible to do any remote work or even a video call. Also, hotel is charging abt. 10USD extra for each pre-packed meal or bowl of instant noodles. Actual quality and quantity of provided food is not more than 2USD, in my view this should be arranged for free. No information is provided about status of lockdown, or positive cases in hotel. There's no fresh air, central AC is noisy and smells of chemicals and disinfectant liquid that's soaked everywhere all the time, even on the food. Travelers, be kindly advised to avoid this place until it's properly vented after the lockdown.
