The hotel was lovely, staff incredibly accommodating -- I would like to mention Gian G in the lounge who was so helpful and kind. She remembered our name and made sure our every wish was granted. The hotel was an oasis in wonderfully hectic Hanoi

Wonderful atmospheric and historic hotel with unbeatable location, a short walk to everything that attracts a first-time visitor. The decor is chic throughout, the rooms incredibly comfortable, with probably the best beds we have experienced in a hotel. Heavy curtains ensure total darkness when you need it to overcome jet lag, quality toiletries in the well equipped bathroom. The pool and garden are very relaxing spaces, perfect for a dip during the day or a drink in the evenings. We also had dinner at the Vietnamese restaurant and it was high quality, as well as pricey, but not as spectacular as I would have expected from the top hotel in a city of amazing food. Breakfast was varied and very good. What was absolutely flawless, was the spa experience. Having experienced many excellent as well as some mediocre massages during a lifetime of back pain and sports injuries, I could only lavish praise where it was not due. Chi and Hau (who gave us the 90’ Asian heritage massages) deserve to be praised to the skies, they are the ultimate massage therapists. I have never felt the benefits of a massage for as long afterwards, it was both medicinal and heavenly in comfort at the same time. The spa is also a very relaxing space and the fact that you can precede the massage with a sauna and a hammam really complete the experience and help you get the best out of these top professionals. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Hanoi, the perfect hotel in an exhilarating city.

The Magnificent new Historic Wing

The recently renovated new Historic Wing rooms and corridors were absolutely opulent as well as being high tech. My suite overlooked a beautiful, peaceful garden and had ample living, sleeping and work space; all the height of luxury. The Club lounge served excellent buffet and made to order breakfasts as well as a wide assortment of cocktails and h'ordeuves in the evening. Hotel staff were attentive and helpful at all times. I highly recommend booking in the new Historic Wing. An added plus, Sofitel Metropole hotel is a 5 minute walk from lovely Hoan Kiem lake which is closed to cars and motor bikes on weekends resulting in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to walk around or sit on lake front benches.

Our stay in Hanoi and Halong Bay: The trip was perfectly organized by Asian Trails. The hotel Metropole in Hanoi certainly one of the most beautiful hotel in South East Asia Built in 1901 and wonderfully redecorated since , an absolutely perfect service , all the staff extremely professional and gentle and all speaking fluent english. The cruise on Halong Bay on board Capella Cruise, a boat chosen by Asian Trails: very comfortable and very spacious cabins and again: perfect service, friendly staff and excellent organization. My most pleasant trip these twenty past years, Thanks to Asian Trails, the Metropole hotel in Hanoi and Capella Cruise in Halong Bay. An outstanding hotel located in the French Quarter of Hanoi. All the staff were excellent and provided a first class service. An ideal location for exploring both the Old Quarter and the French Quarter of Hanoi. Such an ideal spot to walk around the lake and to experience local activities and for sightseeing. Also take the open top bus tour from the Opera House to view the more historic sites and buildings of Hanoi.
