Easter in Budapest

gashnleyna Couples - TripAdvisor review

We stayed at the IBIS styles for 4 nights during the Easter holidays and a great stay. We only booked the hotel a few weeks before we arrived and got it at a decent rate. Our flight didn’t arrive until after 8ish in the evening so we decided to get a taxi to the hotel instead of messing around with public transport (as we had heard the transfer can take nearly 50 mins). We just used one of the taxis outside the airport. The taxi ride was about 25 mins and we paid about £27. For our return journey back to the airport the hotel reception kindly arranged a taxi and we paid about the same price. We were kindly checked in by Matyas who was very swift and efficient. Our room was based on the 3rd floor facing the NH collection hotel. The room itself was very spacious with the video game theme and quirky colour scheme running throughout. Although the bed was set up like a double it was 2 singles pushed together, albeit very comfortable. Wi-fi worked excellent and didn’t drop out. A safe and hair dryer were provided as standard. There were plenty of power points/sockets and mirrors. There were a few English-speaking channels on the TV including History, Paramount and BBC planet. Shower pressure and temperature were excellent there were 2 x shampoo/handwash/shower gel dispensers provided. Housekeeping attended to the room daily, taking away the rubbish and replenishing all the towels. There were plenty of hangers to hang up our gear and plenty of side storage for the rest of the clothes/shoes. The walls are thick, and you couldn’t hear anything from the other rooms. There was a bit of noise coming from the outside traffic but not where its preventing sleep. There is an ironing room on floor 5 that has an iron, ironing board and water dispenser. You will need your room key to operate the iron. Breakfast is available until 11am on a weekend and 10am during weekdays. The buffett breakfast was spot on and kept us full until the evening. There were scrambled eggs, hotdog sausages, beans, boiled eggs, porridge, cheese, fruit, bread, cold cut meats, cereal, juice machine and coffee machine. The breakfast staff are also efficient and were always replenishing the food and removing any used plates/cutlery. Complimentary water and coffee/tea are provided within the lobby. There is a Sega game console also in the lobby that is free to use but you need to ask reception for the control. The location of the hotel was the main reason for the reservation. It was so handy for the main pubs and bars. If you turn right at the end of where Lidl is where all the bars/pubs etc start. We are keen vodka and red bull drinkers and the pubs/bars along that road were selling vodka and hell energy drink for 1090 HUF (£2.38) and pints of beer for 900 HUF (£1.97). The prices in the hotel weren’t that bad either. A 0.10l of rose wine was 800 HUF (€2.5), a bottle of Rose wine was 5000 (€15), 4cl of Finlandia vodka, Gordon’s gin, Bacardi rum was 1500 HUF (€4.50)1500 for 4cl. Bottles of beer were €3.5 and for draught beer 0.50cl was €3. A can of Heineken (0.5cl) in the fridge was €3.50, 0.5cl can of Soproni beer was €3, a 0.187 bottle of red wine was €3 and a 0.187 bottle of white wine was €3.50. As mentioned above, there is a Lidl just to the right of the hotel as well as another convenience store and kebab shop. There is also a decent convenience store just over the road too. The metro station is also located in front of Lidl and there is a bus stop just to the right of the hotel too. Mcdonald’s and Burger king are about a 5 min walk away. We didn’t utilise any of the public transport during our stay instead we just walked to all the main landmarks. The weather was glorious during our stay (high 70s), and we did well with bringing our summer attire and suncream. On the Saturday we went to the Szechenyi thermal bath and just spent all day just chilling in the pools and sunbathing. We went on one of the Danube river cruises and just walked down to dock 6 and purchased a ticket off one of the vendors (we paid €10 each). The next day we ventured onto the other side of the river to where the castle is located. There was a decent happy hour at the Pointer pub just before you walk over the Erzsebet bridge, it was €2.5 for a stein of beer from 2pm till 4pm. Overall, we had a great 4-night stay. Budapest is such a beautiful city with plenty of things to do. The hotel was a great find and is 10/10 for location. A big thanks Matyas and Marci and the rest of the IBIS styles Budapest team. We will recommend the hotel to friends and family.

Loved our stay at Ibis Styles Budapest Center. It was located quite centrally and we had no issues going to the places we needed to go. Has a lot of nearby areas to walk around too. And has a lot of restaurants, supermarkets and other shops within minutes. The stay itself was lovely, the room we had was very spacious, comfortable, and very clean! The staff, especially the ones behind the reception, were very friendly too! And I particularly enjoyed the videogame style they incorporated in it! Highly recommended!

Good experience but noisy

We stayed over the Easter weekend. The hotel was great for what we required it for on a city break, the breakfast was nice particularly enjoyed the pancake machine! The staff on reception were always very friendly and nice. Hotel was a 25 minute walk from the river so we did do a lot of walking but we were fine about this. Only negative was that it’s on the main road so it was so loud during the night causing us not to sleep well, they were also not able to turn the air con on until may even though there was a heat wave so the room was hot! But genuinely a nice stay I would recommend for a long weekend to see the city.

Amazing location, comfortable stay and affordable price!
