On entering the hotel the reception and bar area is very nice & what I had hoped for . It was my bday weekend and was looking forward to a superior experience. Unfortunately as soon as you leave this area the rest of the hotel was very underwhelming almost disappointing. I noted on my stay that it was my bday hoping for an elevated guest experience . This really didn’t happen. Our room was located almost opposite the lift which was very noisy during our stay (with a child) our room was also near the stairs which exumed a constant smell Of cigarette smoke where guests were obviously having sneaky cigarettes. I’m assuming there are no smoke detectors in this area. Our room was basic and whilst relatively clean there were inexplicable brown stains on various areas of the bedroom carpet. Room service also knocked out door early (before 10) on the Friday morning to clean the room.

We have stayed at the Novotel York a number of times and we have never been disappointed. Great location just a short walk to the centre. Great rooms, friendly staff and nice breakfast to set the day up.

I really like the location and the parking that comes with this hotel. The rooms are light and airy and the bed and pillows were comfy. It was all clean. I was staying with my teenage daughter and had booked an executive room with sofa bed. Unfortunately the sofa was not made up, and the extra bits and pieces that come with an executive room and extra person were not in place. The front desk staff resolved the situation promptly when I told them but little things make all the difference. I am not keen on the separate toilet with no handwashing basin close to it but I would stay here again. Breakfast is good - plenty of choice and the restaurant is clean and comfortable.

Hotel overall very good. Good bar, restaurant and staff. Only let down by sub standard room, advertised as Queen sized standard. The room had a seperate toilet to the ensuite bathroom which was extremely small and no handwash faculties. Room wasn't cleaned to sufficient standard with heavily stained carpet and fixtures falling off the wall. Sink in the bathroom did not hold water. Crumbs and dust on cupboard handles.
