Stayed in a spacious waterview room, fantastic broadwater views,, loved the warm rammed earth walls and friendly service. Daily breakfast was generous and tasty, great location, real value for money and decent price point. I travel a great deal and often get let down when staying in mostly 4-5 star properties because they just don’t deliver - you pay for a water view room and get a tiny partial view - you get free breakfast buts the 1960’s English breakfast with nasty scrambled eggs, rubbery bacon, watery tomato, chipolata sausages and chewy hashbrowns. At Ki Mercure I got what was promised and was pleasantly surprised by the breakfast, room size, view and friendly staff, I wouldn’t say it’s 5 star - but I enjoyed staying here more than most 5 and even 6 star hotels I’ve stayed. It’s just so refreshing to arrive at a destination, get a friendly welcome, the room you thought you were getting, sleep in a comfortable bed, wake in the morning - take in the sunrise over the water view from your balcony and enjoy a great daily breakfast with barista coffee included. We just got to enjoy our holiday without the usual litany of hotel disappointments and frustrations.

I'll start this by saying, I'm very biased toward Kangaroo Island, and American River. I've known the island most of my life, and that extends to American River, due to late family who lived there until they no longer could... The Mercure has gone through a couple name changes over time, but has not lost any of it's character. My thoughts of our stay... great spot, just a few metres away from the river, perfect for early risers (I'm usually not one, but was this time), great opportunities for watching a sunrise through the trees, or to see it coming across the water. The room was showing a little age, but by no means a detractor from the stay. Staff were exceptional, a credit to the property. The Bar / Lounge is perfect for adhoc dining, or a couple drinks after a day of sightseeing, and can also give a chance to sample a couple local wineries.. or the "house" wine from a SA based vineyard (I can certainly vouch for the quality) The only real detractor for the visit, was not due to the hotel... it's the roadworks from getting off the ferry at Penneshaw through pretty well the whole length of Hog Bay Rd

My stay was part of a 2 day tour of Kangaroo Island. What an amazingly beautiful place. The hotel exceeded my expectations. Rooms were comfortable and well appointed with some extra complementary snacks and drinks which was a lovely touch. The staff were friendly attentive and helpful. The glass fronted restaurant with a view out to the bay and delicious food was a real treat.

Lovely room, spotlessly clean, nice balcony to enjoy a cuppa and the view. We only stayed 1 night but would happily stay longer next time. Restaurant was so convenient and served delicious meals. very friendly and helpful staff.
