Far Exceeded Expectations - Excellent for Families

We spent 4 nights at the Sebel Quay West and I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. I spent a couple months looking on and off for a place in Sydney and am so glad we landed here. 1. Comfort and size - excellent. We had a 1 BR for 3 people. Room was in great repair, clean, quiet, bright and everything worked well (bathroom, kitchen, laundry). It reminded me of a Fraser Suites but was quite a bit less expensive (and in Sydney, better location). 2. Amenities - outstanding. Comfortable bed and couch/pullout. Kitchen was good size - only "smaller" item was half fridge. Washer/dryer both worked well plus area for air drying clothes and separate laundry sink. Perfect for a family cooking dinner at night rather than going out with tired kids. 3. Views - we were in an "08" room, so had a sort of side view of the water + city but not the harbor. Lots of light, great views. Up on 23, the pool / deck area is gorgeous and we got lots of great photos and watching the city from there. 4. Location - again, could not be better. I hadn't fully appreciated until we arrived, but it's a short walk (phone says 8 minutes, for us it was more like 6 minutes) to Circular Quay train / ferry station. That meant we could walk with our suitcases from the airport train to the hotel with no issues, hop on the ferry to go wherever during our stay, etc. - we didn't need to taxi / uber anywhere. It was a great location for walking when we had free time (to the Rocks, to the Opera House, etc.) There are plenty of grocery locations nearby. It's next to both the 4 Seasons and the Shangri La and we could see their pools and into some of their rooms from ours - and I have to say, we felt we were on the winning side of that for likely less money. The Sebel Quay is comfortable, light and bright, and has great amenities with a better pool/deck area. 5. Food/beverage - we booked the breakfast almost as an after-thought (since we had a kitchen). The breakfast was excellent and very much worth the extra fee. The staff is so kind and always made sure my kids had what they liked. Food was brought quickly and was good quality. These were full breakfasts (bacon/ham/sausage all included in the "traditional breakfast" along with a lot of eggs and other full English breakfast type items) + fruit + a nice cappuccino or similar, cereal, several kinds of juice, etc. It rivaled very fancy hotels and again - included in our very reasonable price. I enjoyed the happy hour as well ($5 AUS wine was a great way to end a day of touring). 6. Staff - kind, helpful, always erring on the side of being generous/flexible. We had new dish towel and detergent each morning if I'd done dishes the night before. The housekeeping was always very nicely done even if we had left some sand around from the beach. Flexibility in changing things on the breakfast menu to accommodate our requests. Suggestions for where to do grocery shopping that had a better selection and was less expensive, etc. I'd recommend this hotel for anyone who wants extra space and flexibility to be able to cook/do laundry, whether you're traveling with kids or not. However - it's great to have the extra rooms for kids adjusting to the time change, ability to do laundry and cook in the room, and the location is fantastic.

Disappointing

I really wanted to rate this hotel five stars but it didn’t quite make it. The rooms are bright, and airy with a full kitchen and washer/dryer. The breakfast has a full menu and is made to order. But only one cup of coffee is included even if it is just plain black coffee. Additional cups are $6.00. The internet is quite spotty, going on and off all day. And forget about anything being delivered to your room if the housekeeper forgot to leave something. I called for a washcloth and three hours later when it had not arrived I called again. After another hour’s wait I went to the front desk and waited until one was brought to me.

A good base - reception staff could try harder.

The hotel is in an excellent location, with easy access to everything Sydney has to offer. We had a city view but were able to see the Harbour Bridge. It was helpful to have a washer and dryer and good that sachets of washing powder were provided. It’s wasn’t the height of luxury and not particularly modern but it was quiet, clean, centrally located and the pool was a real bonus, with a small viewing terrace and a couple of sunbeds. Reception staff were polite but didn’t engage with us at all and tended to be a bit vague if we asked a question, eg, about the cost of a taxi to the airport and how long it would take. When we checked out, we weren’t asked if we’d enjoyed our stay. All in all a good base from which to enjoy wonderful Sydney.

According to Diamond member. No room upgrade as the hotel was full. No welcome gift. Early check in was great and the staff are generally nice. Kita in the restaurant was really lovely. We just found communication lacking. We went to have dinner on Sunday to find the restaurant closed. No real advice at check in about where the restaurant was, times for breakfast etc. it feels like the kind of effort a place puts in when it’s always booked no matter what because of the great location. It really is a great location so close to the rocks and circular quay.

Boa cama, ar condicionado perfeito, chuveiro delicioso, cozinha equipada, próximo a tudo. O custo do transporte é alto. Sugestão para jantar: restaurante Apetitto, em The Rocks. E façam o Costal Walk de Sydney pra Coogee ( fomos só até Bronte, pois as pernas não aguentaram depois de 5 dias de massacre. rs).
