Room and bathroom are dated. It looks like it's not had any upgrade since the 80s or 90s. Bed and pillow was fine and reception area is quite nice so no complaints there. It was also one of the best value hotels in the city. However like the Mercure chain as a whole they are very up and down. Most in Europe claim to be 4 star. Some feel very much more like a 3 star. Eg , Brighton and this one. Id love to give the review a 4 Star review and if it was advertised as a 3 star hotel then I would. However as it is meant to be a 4 star and I don't agree with this rating I can only give It a 3 star review. If you are on a budget stay here as it's great value. If you are expecting a 4 star hotel go somewhere else.

The hotel was very near to transport links, local train station, tram& underground. Could walk to museums, Palace, Civic Hall, Theatres plus shops 15-20 mins. Lots of places to have coffee & cake. Breakfast - a lot of choice, plenty of variety. Reception staff friendly. Got a free drink on arrival. Slight drawbacks on arrival informed electrics had gone down so couldn’t have key for room, reception staff had to escort every time. Finally got key the night before we left. Didn’t find their Wi-Fi very good, couldn’t access anything on my IPhone. Better with own data ? Would have been helpful to know that there were four hotels with same name in the city as we initially went to one further across the other side of the city. Otherwise enjoyable stay.

This hotel is in a great location. Very comfortable bed and pillow. Only downside of the room was the shower head, if it’s facing the screen it leaks beneath soaking the floor. Just make sure the head is facing the wall more. Breakfast was good, all fresh looking and plenty of choice. We booked as part of a package and agree that €24 is high for breakfast. We arrived back around 22.00 one evening after a long day out to find the fire alarm was ringing. The staff didn’t know what they were doing and just let people carry on milling around and also bar staff still serving. Hopefully now all getting trained on fire procedures! Note, we got a taxi from the airport, it cost nearly €70!!! The airport bus was a fraction of the price.

Would not recommend.

I personally wouldn’t recommend this hotel, although it’s not in a bad location, that’s about all it has going for it. We arrived half an hour before the check in time, and was told our room was ready but would have to pay €30 to get the key, so for the sake of 30 minutes, we just waited. The hotel itself is very dated, the rooms are dark and gloomy. The bed is quite possible one of the most uncomfortable I have ever used, and you initially only get 1 pillow which was very thin, I did get a couple more from reception, which were better quality. The shower in the bathroom, if you’re any taller than 5ft 8-9, you are not getting underneath it. The breakfast is charged at €24 a person, which is outrageous, use the good location to go and find yourself a much better, and better value breakfast elsewhere! There is a reason the restaurant is ALWAYS empty. Would I recommend this hotel, absolutely not, the location is good, but that can be said about anywhere in Vienna, it’s not a huge place and the public transport systems are very good and you can get practically anywhere in minutes.

Really clean friendly central hotel with brilliant staff

The hotel is brilliantly situated in Westbahnhof at the top of Mariahilfstrasse and its shops within a 15 minute walk of the Museum quarter Stephansplatz etc and plenty of transport links to all the sights. The room was lovely and clean with tea/coffee and Christian on reception was really helpful as were all the staff. I would certainly recommend Hotel Mercure Wien Westbahnhof as a base for exploring Vienna and we will stay here again. Thank You to the Staff and Management!
