Stayed for one night en route back to UK…first impressions, reception staff cold & not very welcoming! As Accor members we weren’t offered a ‘Welcome drink’ (as we were offered in a French Ibis the next day). Our room was nice & modern and a good size..with a walk in shower..which was perfect. We ate in the restaurant and the food was just ok. We both had entrecôte steak..one medium which was very rare & one well done which was medium but we didn’t complain as may have been due to a problem with the language communication. However, the meal was advertised as ‘Entrecôte steak with potatoes, peppers & a cheese sauce…the cheese sauce was plonked on the table and was from a squeegee bottle..ie DIY cheese sauce!! Also the open kitchen cooking area was near to the reception & restaurant seating area & the constant cooking of chips throughout the evening left a stale cooking oil smell which emanated through the restaurant all evening and wasn’t a very pleasant experience! We are well travelled and have stayed in numerous hotels throughout Europe but would definitely not stay in this hotel again.

Have stayed here numerous times over the years. Recently stayed here twice in November/December. Efficient check-in both times, typical Ibis, everything clean and in working order. Will always be our first choice when travelling in the area.

This hotel is not in the prettiest of locations, but is perfect if you’re staying in the area and don’t want to spend a fortune on a hotel in San Sebastián. There’s also a Lidl supermarket 400 metres away. Our welcome was friendly and, as Accor Club members, we were offered welcome drinks straight away. Our room was very nice and clean and looked out on to neighbouring houses. The curtain wasn’t very effective so if you’re a light sleeper, bring eye shades. And for some reason, we were awoken when the cleaner came in in the morning, even though we had a “do not disturb” sign on our door. The standout feature was breakfast though. It was excellent. I’ve seen some other reviewers having problems getting to the hotel and in fact it’s very easy, even if you don’t have a car. You can either take the Euskotren from San Sebastián or Hendaye and exit at Bentak. The RENFE Cercanias train runs parallel and goes to San Sebastián. The station is called Ventas. Both stations are a few hundred metres from the hotel. You don’t have to walk the 30 minutes from Irun station (unless you want to, that is!)

We stayed two nights. First night: ok. We left our room at 10:00 and saw the cleaning lady opening our window (ground floor, right at the parking lot). When we came back at 17:30 our window was still wide open… Our belongings right in sight and ready to be taken away… (laptops). Luckily nothing was stolen, but the room was full of flies and with outside temperatures of + 34•C, extremely hot. When we complained at the reception we got as answer: ‘oh sorry, they must have forgotten to close, but there’s nothing we can do…’ and they turned away… So we had a terrible second night in a hot room which the AC couldn’t get down before the morning,… Very bad experience! At least they could have offered us another room, but no, not even a cold drink…

We have stayed at Ibis Irun many times, although not for a few years. Its ideally placed, near to the toll motorway and is perfect for travellers either going North into France or South further into Spain. Its not near the town, but if all you want is a bed for the night its clean & comfy, food in the restaurant was reasonable, there is a secure gated surface car park and they accept dogs. However, on this occasion there are some issues, I want to raise. The hotel is currently housing several families of Ukranian refugees and whilst we applaud the Spanish governments reponse to the refugee crisis and Accor Hotel's help with this, I do not think that unruly, unsupervised children should be allowed to play on bicycles & scooters in the public lounge (which is not very large) when weary travellers are trying to relax with a drink. The outside terrace was similarly not a place to relax with some of the older children playing loud music on mobile phones. We had driven a long way that day to reach Ibis Irun and relaxation was simply not possible. I would also point out that allowing very small unsupervised children to play in the carpark was extremely dangerous for them and a couple of times there was some very near misses with cars coming in and not expecting to encounter small children in their way.
