Elevators and keycards need replacing

I stayed here with my partner and her sister to visit family and friends. Positive takeaways: - Breakfast buffet variety - it was a nice surprise to see a rotation of some of the hot dishes during our 3 night stay. The hotel rotates the sausages, rice, and other hot items to cater for its clientele and it didn't feel repetitive to constantly eat the same hot breakfast for all days that we used the breakfast. - Quick Customer recovery - the Manager on duty mistakenly thought that I did not have an Accor ALL membership, and found out that I was a Gold status member. She was apologetic, and corrected that I could check-in for the room earlier as opposed to waiting until 1400 for the room. Also, when I asked reception to do a thorough vacuum and clean cleaning of the air-conditioning filter, they were quick on the ball to clean. I highlighted that it was very dusty in the room on the first night's stay and it was promptly rectified. - General friendliness of staff - Reception were always welcoming and inviting whenever we walked in to the hotel (if they were not busy attending to other customers). The cleaning staff and buffet staff were also pleasant. - Cleanliness - Other than the dusty aircon, the hotel is generally clean and well maintained for its age. - Location - The hotel is located opposite a ground and under-ground shopping mall, which was very convenient. It is 10 minutes walk from the main shopping area of Pitt Street, as well as 5-8 minutes walk from Sydney Chinatown and around 10 minutes to Darling Harbour precinct. The hotel is also near Train/Subway line (Museum Station) so access to and from the airport is convenient. Room for Improvement: - Swipe System for Elevators/Rooms - needs upgrading. We followed instructions as advised by the reception staff on our first day as well as the notice on the elevator, however, it took several tries for the swipe system to recognise any of our 4 card keys. Other customers we were in the elevator with throughout our stay also found the swipe system frustrating. Some guests would ride the elevator up and down the hotel until they could get their card keys to be recognised by the swipe system. Other times, hotel staff in the elevator would offer to swipe their own keys as they could see guests being frustrated by the swipe system in the elevator. The same applies for the room swipe, it takes a few tries before entry into the room is granted, even though one follows all instructions by the hotel staff. This should be looked at the next opportunity that the hotel decides to do some minor renovations/upgrades, consider swapping the system to a different or more sensitive key card access. - Elevators - One of the two elevators available for guests went unserviceable on the last night of our stay, resulting in delays for guests to access hotel amenities and their rooms. Elderly guests were visibly exasperated by the constantly full sole operating elevator, with guests having to wait until the sole operating elevator became empty enough to ride on. Consider also having an elevator dedicated for staff so that any staff that require priority elevator service (such as the cleaning staff) can ride the elevator system unimpeded. Perhaps something that can be suggested by management at the next opportunity for renovation/upgrades.

We had a bad experience with our previous hotel losing power and were left to find somewhere new last minute in the middle of our holiday. Sher at the Ibis World Square was amazing. She sorted us new rooms quickly, offered us free drinks and went above and beyond to help me as I had a knee brace on due to injury. We can’t thank Sher enough for everything!

Overall, it is all right in the world square ibis. However, the offensive noise from Pitt street outside room could be the problem which affected my quality of sleep a bit, especially in Thursday night 21th March. Meanwhile, the neighbor who could have the party late in night could also become the potential issue.

Better than the bigger brands closer to CBD

Outstanding! 5 min light rail ride to QVB. I slept better at Ibis than I do at home. Will definitely stay here again when I’m back in Sydney. Oh, and incredible choice of eateries across the road at the World Centre.
