First and foremost, I want to compliment an absolutely terrific part of the Mercure, La Gare, Hanoi team: Linh! She is outstanding. Always smiling, often working alone catering to multiple guests in the restaurant. She is terrific. Well, the good things end there. - There are insects and fruit flies flying and sitting on the breakfast spread. I brought it up... but there was silence. When I pursued it over 4 days, the manager ultimately had an excuse. She said: Its moisture in the air. Unbelievable and unacceptable. Clearly, terrible hygiene. Mercure didn't seem to care at all. If you fall sick, your problem! - The kitchen seems to have some kind of quota on extra-sauce! I asked for Plum sauce on my grilled chicken - and I was told that they can't serve extra sauce, beyond what came with the first serving! A clear - no. - A server actually gave looks when we asked for water with ice. - While checking out, I had to explain that I had to ask for a laundry bag to give my laundry - and the clothes were brought back in a plastic bag. Why did I need to give the explanation: because the front desk lady demanded why our room did not have a laundry bag when we checked out!

We were upgraded due to our Accor membership and enjoyed a large spacious room with late checkout. The bed was very comfortable, and the 8th floor looked like it had been freshly renovated. We walked our bags from the hotel (about 300m) to the train station to take the overnight luxury train to Sapa ( horrendous, see my separate review). We only stayed one night and would stay again if in the area.

The last portion of our S E Asia tour ended in Hanoi. We spent a few nights at this hotel and enjoyed our stay. The beds were really comfortable and the rooms were satisfactory in both size, comfort and cleanliness. We opted for the breakfast buffet and were very satisfied.

The hotel's location is superb, offering proximity to everything, whether you're on a business trip or leisure visit to Hanoi. The combination of charming architecture and modern interior design creates a delightful ambiance. The services provided, from the front desk to the restaurant and housekeeping, were excellent. The breakfast exceeded my expectations, especially compared to other Mercure hotels I've visited. The latte coffee was perfect, and the pho was a great way to start the day.
