Noisy & stuffy

We were advised the room would be small but, in fact, it was tiny. It was stuffy and windows would not open. The room was noisy. Drilling was taking place and it sounded like it was in the room next door. I complained twice and nothing happened. My wife was in St. Mary's hospital and I was staying at the Mercure as it was close by. I was worried about my wife and slept badly at night so I needed a rest in the afternoon. Because of the noise, I could not get that rest. I was livid and deliberately made a scene in the lobby. I went to the hospital and dozed in the chair in my wife's room. When I came back in the early evening, the noise was still happening. It stopped at about 6.30pm. The next morning I checked out.

Perfectly located for Paddington Station and the Heathrow Express. The building is fantastic but the interior needs to be refreshed. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The double room I had was very small to the point there was nowhere to store luggage, but the bathroom was spacious with a powerful shower and the bed was very comfy. It's great to see a focus on more sustainable hospitality with refillable shower gel, shampoo and soap instead of single use containers, but that didn't extend to the other complementary items in the room including individually plastic-wrapped biscuits. Also nice to see little touches like shaving and toothbrush kits. It would be better to manage guest expectations by not overselling the "fitness suite" which is a room big enough for 2 people to workout comfortably, with about 10 equipment stations crammed into it so that noone can work out effectively. The food at Frany and Benny's restaurant was OK but the service was excellent and very friendly. Overall - 2.5 stars with potential to be a 3.5 with some care and attention.

Worst Mercure

While I have used this hotel before, I find it the worst Mercure I have used. The bathrooms are all too small, the rooms can be noisy. The shower was cold in the morning and the staff at reception did not seem at all bothered, nonchalant in fact. I think I will need to reconsider using this Mercure in future which is a shame as I try to stay loyal to Accors.

Great location next to Paddington Station. Some background noise from trains ( and construction site) but not too intrusive - my husband didn’t hear anything. Very friendly and welcoming staff on reception. Had a complementary drink at the bar. We had a 3rd floor room overlooking the street but no noise/light pollution due to double glazed windows and blackout curtains. Good sized clean room, king size bed, complimentary soft drinks in the fridge and a small bottle of Prosecco. Bonus in the bathroom with a bath, shower and a window! Nice fluffy towels and a good range of toiletries, robes and slippers. We tried the on site Frankie and Benny’s breakfast one morning and found it tasty and value for money, with a lovely lady serving us. Only two negatives - the shower curtain needed replacing and I found the a/c noisy ( my husband didn’t ).

Very comfy pleasant stay and so handy being so close to Paddington, literally a couple of minutes walk. Great place to get over our long haul flight, didn't try the restaurant but looked like a nice place to relax. We chose a small room as it was only for one night.
