A man entered my room at 1am.

I don’t have anything good to say about this hotel stay unfortunately. I had got back into my hotel room at around midnight and decided to call it a day. I would say I was just starting to get off to sleep when I hear the door to my hotel room open and a man came in supposedly thinking this was his room. I was startled. A huge error from the hotel which led me to not sleep for the remainder of the night of fears something like that would happen again. This was to apparently be followed up but I haven’t heard anything from the hotel themselves. What apparently happened was I was not properly checked in by the hotel staff when I arrived at around 3pm. My room was then supposedly vacant and so another man took it and was able to get in while I was asleep. Very, very disturbing. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone and I have yet to hear from any staff member that sympathised with me for the trauma that I endeavoured.

Hotel is very convenient for shops, Crucible, Cathedral, Bramhall Lane is a short walk away. Our room was large, very clean and well appointed. Unfortunately breakfast was a bit of a let down, no greeting, told we’d already been down.. not. No information as to the layout as we’d not been here before. Quality was ok but needed to be replenished more frequently. Bit more management needed.

Good central location within walking distance of bus/train station (although a steep uphill walk, approx 6 minutes), close to Sheffield City Hall (approx 7 mins walk) and town centre shopping area. The biggest disappointment for us was the tiny pool as the photos on the hotel website make it look much larger. No use if you want a proper swim! Our Executive room ( free upgrade as we use Accor hotels a lot) was clean, spacious and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable, with a relatively lightweight duvet, which was ideal as the air cooling didn't seem to work (switched off as it was March?) Opening windows, but me mindful of traffic noise. Clean bathroom with walk in shower (no bath, but no problem) and usefully the toilet was separate. All room facilities including mini-fridge as described on hotel website. Sainsbury's 'Local' store almost next door to hotel if you want to get your own drinks/snacks. We would use this hotel again when in Sheffield as we got an excellent deal on the room price.

Stayed here on business and was disappointed by the cleanliness of the room. The public areas of the hotel are ok, but once you get upstairs to the rooms the picture really changes. The rooms and corridors feel dated, with horrible plastering on the walls and some really cheap and nasty decor in the bedrooms. I could excuse this, had it not been for the large and curly hair on the shower soap dispenser, and, inexcusably, a discarded punnet of grapes I found UNDER my bed. You generally expect quite high standards from a Novotel, but was incredibly disappointed by this one. Will not stay here again.

The staff on reception are truly wonderful, so helpful and pleasant. The room was a little dated and had popcorn on the walls, very 70's, but it was very clean. The door between the bedroom and entry was good for keeping noise out but early one morning in my corridor multiple doors were being slammed, I saw it was actually the housekeeper and I gave this feedback to reception, very poor. Some noise could be heard from the road but only if the window was open. My room card was not working on the second day but this was quickly rectified although I saw multiple guests going to reception with the same issue. I would have given this hotel a very good if it wasn't for the housekeeper slamming the doors and the outdated decor. It was a good stay but I really hope there is some refurbished of rooms in the future and the housekeeper takes into account guests may still be sleeping.
