Friendly welcome. The family room was a good size. Great location; short walk into city centre. Quiet. Cleanness of bedding and towels not as desired. Extra for carpark and breakfast. Both well worth it. Check out is 12 noon. Carpark is until midnight of your last day.

Quite a pleasant hotel, nice bar/reception area, nice outdoor seating overlooking the river. I have 2 complaints though, one is having toilet separate from the bathroom so no hand washing facility until you reach the bathroom (or wait 15 minutes while your partner finishes showering) and a very expensive breakfast (I think we paid £18 extra each for the breakfast) which arrived from the kitchen almost cold - it was a very quiet morning so they hadn’t put out the buffet. My partner and I left most of it, there’s not much attraction to a cold fry-up.

Refurbished Hotel - Shocking Design

On arrival at the hotel it is evident that the lobby has refurbished and is in the trendy warehouse/loft style. Unfortunately they forgot to install a reception area. The reception staff use a laptop on a laptop stand on top of a glass display stand selling fudge etc. This is a very poor design for the staff using the laptop for ergonomic reasons - they have to sit at a 45 degree angle to the laptop, can't get their knees beneath the cabinet etc. The hotel is likely to have staff suffering from work related upper limb disorder (WRULD) soon. The fact that selling a tin of fudge is more important than staff wellbeing should have set the alarm bells ringing, but it got worse, much worse. We stayed in room 115 a 'superior room with sofa'. Again, a recently refurbished room that was clean and large enough. The layout of the room was an absolute disaster. The toilet is separate from the bathroom and bedroom (three separate rooms). The toilet room does not have any handwashing facilities. When you are finished in the toilet you have to walk back through the bedroom to get to the bathroom to wash your hands. Obviously, as a minimum, you have to touch door handles, light switches taps etc. when moving from the toilet through the bedroom to the bathroom. This will spread faecal matter, urine etc. through all 3 rooms. DISGUSTING, DISGUSTING, DISGUSTING. I am surprised that this is legal. Whoever painted the inside of the toilet door must have used a catapult - a shocking standard of work. To get in to the shower is a step up of about 150mm. I'm not sure why this step needs to be so high but it meant that at my small height of 5'7" (1.7m) I could not raise my arms above my head in the shower as they hit the ceiling. I couldn't wash beneath my arms properly. If you are 6' in height your head will touch the ceiling and be above the shower head! On stepping out of the shower (down the 150mm step) the tiled floor is slippy and dangerous. The hotel already knows this because there is a very small sign as you enter the shower saying that anti-slip mats are available at reception. Now, I have never been naked, about to get in a shower, read a sign that mats are available at reception, and walked to reception to get a mat! Why haven't the non-slip mats been made available in the shower rooms? The fact that the hotel knows there is a problem (by putting up a sign) and has not taken appropriate action would make them subject to libel in my opinion. And when you leave, make sure you ask for the code to get out of the car park. They ask for your car registration when you arrive, so they surely know you have a car when you leave (they charge for the parking!). They don't tell you that you need a code to exit the car park, and believe me, it's not obvious. The intercom at the exit of the car park can only be described as fake, it's just a plastic box with no buttons. So, you have to get out of the car at the car park exit, walk back (in the rain) to the hotel, ask for the code, walk back to the car (in the rain), enter the code and leave. Obviously, this causes delays and is frustrating watching people from every car in the queue go back to the hotel for the code. We won't be back!

The hotel had a nice design and was very close to the York Barbican and city centre. We were offered a free alcoholic drink and the staff were friendly. The room was clean and well set up, with the toilet separate to the bathing area. There was both a bath and shower available. A fault to the room is that the shower stayed cold and the pressure wasn't strong enough to rinse hair properly. The bed was comfortable enough but there was a loud noise coming from somewhere in the room which disturbed our sleep. For the price I expected a little bit better. It's a decent hotel for a short stay but I don't recommend it for stays longer than 1-3 nights.

We stayed at this hotel over the Easter period whilst visiting friends in York. The hotel is well situated with a five minute walk into the town centre. We found being able to park at the hotel beneficial, even for the £16 parking charge it costs, as with other hotels in close proximity, there was no parking on site and you had to use the public multi storey car park. Just to add even when you have checked out of your room you can leave your car in the car park until late evening, if you wanted to do more sight seeing. We were upgraded to an executive suite during our stay and it did not disappoint. The suite was spotless with all amenities in the room required for a comfortable stay. The only downside was the lateness of the check in time, which was 16:30 despite it stating from 3:00 pm. We would definitely stay at this hotel again when visiting York.
