I have mixed feelings about this hotel. Starting with the positives: the location is good. Across from Prado Museum, close to many good restaurants and bars and close to the bus stop when you're coming from the airport. The basic rooms are not too small and have a well equipped bathroom. Room and bathroom are kept very clean. We had a room at the front of the hotel with a little balcony looking out onto the Prado. Wifi in the room is good, not so in the breakfast area. Breakfast has a good selection of fresh foods (coffee is not the best though). The minibar has 5 soft drinks that are complementary. They are not restocked. There is a kettle and some soluble coffee, no nespresso. There are no bathrobes. Pablo at the reception was extremely friendly and nice... Some staff are friendly... However, upon arrival, check in was done with a long face making me feel unwelcome. I am a Diamond All Accor member and yes, I am used to being treated like a VIP in hotels of the Accor chain. This hotel did not make me feel special in any way. There was no upgrade even though I kindly asked for one months before our arrival. There were lovely chocolate snacks in the room as an apology which was a nice gesture, but they simply replaced the welcome gift. I e-mailed beforehand that it was my boyfriend's birthday during our stay and a special gift was agreed upon (birthday cake). However, there was no gift even though during our stay I reminded staff that we were celebrating his special day. If you are looking for an impersonal hotel with good rooms and a good location and you can get a good deal then I would recommend the hotel. If you are looking for that little extra and especially if you are used to being pampered in hotels (or you have expectations because you are a Diamond member), then I suggest you look elsewhere. I find it a pity, a smile and keeping their promises would have made all the difference for me.

Dear Chantal, Firstly we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your impressions regarding your recent stay at our Mercure Madrid Centro****. It is only through feedback such as yours that we are able to maintain and improve upon the service that we provide to our guests. I would like to apologize if we couldn´t do an upgrade on your reservation, we are the only one hotel Mercure in Madrid city and we are always fully booked. I remember you had send some mails from January and we tryed our best to do a free upgrade but, we only have 6 superior rooms and all of them were already booked. Thats why we gave to you a room with balcony to the main street, to guarantee nice views during your stay. On the 14th we let on your room a piece of cake for your boyfriend´s birthday with a note, we are sorry if you had expected another kind of surprise, or another kinds of present, normally this birthday details, makes our guests very excited! but, we will take a note to keep working on it and improve to do better surprises. Located in a quiet alley but very central, a stone throw from the Prado and a range of other musea. Small but well equipped rooms - very Mercure. Helpful staff and solid tasty breakfast. Efficient taxi services.

The hotel is fine, it has the basics for a short stay. The breakfast is fantastic!!! Very near to Prado and Reina Sofia museum. The staff is so kind and they let us stay in the reception once we checked out given that we have our flight at night.

-Like to sleep? Good luck. Each time a door closes it will sound like an explosion. When the cleaning starts at 6:00am you’ll think you’re in a war zone. -Like to be LIED to? I asked Rosario for a late check out to sleep in and was told no because fully booked. If you’re going to say no, at least be honest about it… especially when I can check the website and see that I can book the same room. “But there’s just one room left” — you know your website lets you reserve 3 rooms at the same time right? -Like to use Wi-Fi? Maybe it’s time to disconnect. Room 504 was unusably slow. Had to use phone hot-spot. Those were my main problems. Everything else was mediocre — dated, little far from Gran Via, OK breakfast with “nocilla” instead of Nutella. Definitely could find much better for the price, or at least a hotel with staff that doesn’t lie to your face.

It is a very good hotel, which provides the best services to its clients. We booked three nights here, in June, on my birthday. At my arrival at the hotel, when I came into the room, I had a very pleasant surprise from the team of the hotel: flowers, cava, balloons and sweets. Thank you so much for that! What can I say more? The breakfast was so good, the people from the desk office so nice and helpful, and the room very clean, with a generous space and balcony. When in Madrid, don’t forget to book a room here!
