This is the fourth time I've stayed at Novotel Wien Hauptbahnhof in the 12 months. I don't know if there will be a fifth. Firstly let me say the first three times I was travelling as a couple for two occasions and a family of four for the last. I also had breakfast. Each time everything was amazing, from the wonderful breakfast to the cleanliness of the rooms, the friendliness of the staff, and the nice free mini bar with a few drinks and snacks. This is why I decided to stay there again when I had to go back to Vienna alone. A totally different experience this time for 3 nights with no breakfast. I arrived at 9am after travelling since 3. I didn't expect a room so I asked to leave my luggage there and come back later. The receptionist was quite surly (unusual) and took my luggage. I asked when I could check in and was told it's 3pm (which is fair) but to come back about 1 and see if a room was available. I wandered around Vienna and came back at 1. They gave me my luggage back and then said the room wasn't ready. So I waited in the lobby until 2. They said the room still wasn't ready. So I waited in the lobby until 3pm. My room was ready then as it was supposed to be. This was annoying because as I'd been sitting in the lobby doing nothing for 2 hours I counted 10 people (couples) who checked in and went straight to their rooms. My room was next to the lift and so I could always hear noises from that area. The door hinge was broken, the kettle lid was broken, the shower tray was broken, and there was a big stain on the carpet. The tea and sugars I used from the tea/coffee making facilities were never replaced. Just two bottles of water in the minibar. None of these things would ruin a holiday or stay but they were just little indications that the 4 star quality and price of the room was not necessarily being lived up to. It certainly wasn't anywhere near as great as it had been the previous 3 times. So to summarise, as a solo traveller staying without breakfast I was not impressed. This may have been just bad luck. I would certainly think twice about staying here alone again.

We were check in around 21:00 and standing in front of one guest in reception for check in. However this guest seems have problem regard his booking. It take already more than 10 mins then I asked reception whether have another colleague can handle as we were very tired and expect still take for long time to solve in front of guest. He replied to me that’s only him without any colleague or manager due to Sunday. What kind of International chain hotel there’s only one man in reception. We still waiting with few 2 hotel clients for assistance. Suddenly the guy from the bar came to reception desk and then assisted key changes and luggage handling. As a traveler, definitely want to get the room at once especially in the late evening. We not expect to express check in but at least not to wait such a long time without assistance and just the receptionist talking with the phone seems not care we are waiting. Believe it is an international chain hotel group under Accor management by Sebastian’s team. We were shocked for our first experience. On 9 Jan around 08:40, we arrived the restaurant for breakfast. None of the associates stand in counter to greet guest and I thought inside the restaurant is busy. When we entered the restaurant, there were only 2-3 tables, almost empty, the lady with black shirt not even approached to me and asked for my room number. No greeting at all, no smile. Is it a standard to have this ‘ good morning sir, may I have your name and room number instead of immediately ask what room number, really felt impolitely to guest. Then I went around the buffet table and just hear the associates chatting and laughing loudly in the working station and even gathering three to four staffs talking together with nothing to do. I’m very surprised is that Novotel standard like this. I’m very upset to express for my feeling to your hotel even less than 2 stars standard, just like a fast food restaurant, self seating and buy the food. My wife ran to asked 2 ladies wearing in black shirts m to stop chatting as we l wanted to have a little bit quiet place and can listen to the background music to have breakfast but disturbed their noise ignoring sound. Both ladies were smiling to my wife and showed to her who are you and we not care with disgusting smile to her. At that moment, one gentleman with white shirt was approached to them and understood the situation and seems not care too. These two ladies keep chatting, cleaned and set up a table together, so it is the way they can keep chatting. That’s why I totally understood there’s no associate stand in front of entrance counter to greet guest for check room number. In addition staff seems even not care to vacuum the floor, table next to buffet station with a noisy sound again when the guest eating. What amazing job they are doing, suddenly 3 of them (those 2 ladies and that gentleman) one by one went back to back of house, kitchen, seems vacuum cleaner out of service, no one take care the guests at restaurant. What kind of service and kind of hospitality? I don’t know those staffs is causal or full time but I can see that no management organize to manage their job without standards . The service attitude is the worst what I even see. Except one staff wearing brown shirt seems chef or handle buffet station, he does his job to ensure the food station with sufficient food. Overall the breakfast is only one point is positive but still need to improve as they don’t have oven to heat the bread. Lastly when we checked out and wanted to ask the GM email address to express our disappointment and asked the receptionist to get it to us upon our departure. When check out, the receptionist replied she’s a new staff here and GM, he or she is a meeting, so not able to meet up . My wife said not just want to have email address. She said not know where to get it to us. Will it be alternative email address or any options for guest to express their comment? Is it a basic standard training for a new staff know how to reply guest general inquiries before send them on stage to work? I really hope the top management can take it seriously to investigate and look in this matter, CCTV?, Totally NOT recommend who wants to stay in this hotel and I’m happy you can reply to me directly or you can provide your email address for further discussion.

【良かった点】 ・好立地:ウィーン中央駅からすぐで空港からの到着にも中心部への移動にも便利。 ・受付の臨機応変の対応:隣国からの早朝便で午前9時くらいの到着だったが、エキストラベッドの用意は後で行うという条件でアーリーチェックインをしてくれた上、レイトチェックアウトも併せてつけてくれたのはとても助かった。観光目的の家族連れだっただけに、これだけでも100点満点。 ・広くて清潔な部屋:ベッドルームも洗面所も広くてとても清潔。快適に滞在できる。15階の角部屋だったため、ウィーン市内の眺望も素晴らしかった。 ・静か:角部屋だったこともあるが、家族連れが多かったにもかかわらず、隣室の音も聞こえず、静かに滞在できた。 【ちょっぴり気になった点】 ・イビスと入口が近すぎ:すぐ隣のイビスの入口と間違えてしまうかもしれない(実際に間違えた)。 ・家族向けかも:クリスマスシーズンのためか、家族連れの滞在が多かった。普段の客層はわからないが、ホテルの部屋もファミリールームが多いように感じた。家族連れなら問題ないが、ビジネスでの滞在だとどうだろうか。 ・部屋のドア:防音のためか部屋のドアが非常に重いので特に小さい子には注意が必要。 ・シャワースペース:シャワー水圧は結構強いので気持ちいいが、シャワースペースにドアがないため、シャワーの方向に気を付けないと床が水浸しになる。備え付けのアメニティーはシャンプーとボディーソープのみ。リンスや歯ブラシはないので、持参する必要あり。

The location of the hotel makes up about 3 stars out of my 4 star rating. 1 star would be for the non-replenishment of hand soap, tissues and tea bags for our 4 night stay. Location of the hotel was superb as it was just across the main train station. So convenient for my family to explore Vienna, and even other nearby cities/ countries. We were able to check in around past 3pm already but we were in the hotel lobby around 11am. This was understandable since that was New Year’s Eve. Upon check in- I noticed immediately that there were not complimentary water and the soap bottles in the toilet were empty. I just let this pass assuming that they will just refill the soap dispenser the following day. Unfortunately, they didn’t refill the soap dispenser and didn’t replenish the tea bags, sugar, creamer until our check out day. Anyhow, would probably still stay here again because of its location
