Broken equipment and Spa- were not told before paying.

Me and a friend booked a day pass for £25 each- were really excited to go as a treat. Were left disappointed- hot/cold shower felt like a regular shower temperature,with the cold not working. Ice room was open but not on, with no ice. The steam room, sauna and aroma room were all poor quality- all rooms were the same- steamy. There was no difference in the temperature or heat of the rooms, which we were expecting, especially because the sauna was supposed to be hot. The thing we found most disappointing was that we weren't made aware of any of the issues beforehand- as we had paid on the day at reception. All of the regulars said this was a common occurance with broken/ poor quality equipment. We ended up staying there for 30 mins before deciding to complain to reception, who said they were hoping for it to be fixed in a few weeks. Even if it was fixed, we both decided we wouldn't come again. Only saving element was that we were refunded quickly.

We attended a wedding here, and stayed the night. The hotel room was clean, comfortable and spacious, however there were several things that were not ideal. Trying to book took a lot of effort and was far from smooth. We were given a specific contact via the wedding party. From that email we were told that someone would contact us on a given date to make the booking. They didn't. After several tries, I got in touch with a staff member, who took some details and sent a confirmation email. However they didn't ask how many nights we would be staying, or which day we would arrive. Eventually I managed to get in touch with them again to correct this, but I had to chase up the confirmation, which had evidently been forgotten. At the wedding reception itself, we were so crammed in that the waiting staff couldn't get round our table. Therefore, half the guests on the table did not receive bubbly for the toasts; and we had to pass the plates across the table ourselves. Also, if anyone wanted to get up from the table, we all had to shuffle along, almost onto each other's laps, to enable it! On the night we stayed, I asked the receptionist what time breakfast would be in the morning (a Saturday). She said 7 - 9 am. It seemed somewhat early, but there was no information in the room to contradict it, so we set an alarm, got up considerably earlier than we would have liked to, and came downstairs to discover that in fact breakfast went on until 10.30. Not exactly a relaxing start to the day. Overall, then, the customer service we receive rather took the shine off what should have been a special stay. I do hope things improve for future guests.

Booked a really reasonably priced spa day deal with Afternoon Tea via Buyagift as a treat for my mum and I for mother's day. Read some of the reviews before we went and I was a little worried it was going to be a disaster, but it was totally the opposite! We both had a lovely, relaxing day - yes the pool area could do with a makeover but all of the spa facilities were working when we went and were clean. The Ishga face and body experience treatment was so relaxing and the staff couldn't have been nicer. We then went upstairs for afternoon tea in the lounge with a view of the Sheffield winter garden which was lovely - it was a sunny day which helped but the glass roof let in tonnes of light which just made it feel more relaxing. The only thing we were a bit nervous of was walking through the reception area in our robes, however no one battered an eyelid and there were plenty of other people in the lounge doing the same thing so we didn't feel out of place. The afternoon tea was GORGEOUS, lovely sandwiches, warm scones and a great choice of treats. We were asked by the staff several times if we'd like a top up of tea/coffee and nothing was too much trouble, for example providing us with a paper bag etc to take the remaining treats home. I would definitely recommend this spa day and would love to go back and do it all again!

Truely awful. Disgusting 'Spa' services with so much mould it should be shut down.

We've been using the Spa/pool services at the Mercure for years. And for years, watched its steady decline in quality. Hitting rock bottom yesterday. Arriving at a horrendously messy reception, being greeted by staff that couldn't care less, we were pretty shocked to be told the new cost of using the pool. Midway through this conversation, reception staff just walked off to go put some towels in a cupboard. After resolving this, we then experienced the following: Changing rooms absolutely trashed Lockers that don't work 'Aromatherapy' room, doesn't work. The door/seals are broken, exposed electrics in the room, and the 'aroma' is of stale mould. 'Experience shower' doesn't work. 'Ice room' doesn't work. Steam room is a mould fest. Sauna is OK Corridors etc are full of mould and have ceilings disintegrating with mould Plant room door left wide open (Should definitely be secure) Broken swimwear dryers Mouldy showers Generally filthy We won't ever be returning here. And recommend nobody else does - unless they're partial to a bit of legionnaires disease.

Stayed here for 5 days and not very impressed with what is advertised and what is delivered by the hotel. Spa advertised as included - In reality there is a £10 charge per person to use the pool. Advertised Slippers and Robe in rooms - In reality they are nowhere to be seen. We also had no shower gel for the first few days even though we mentioned it to reception. Lastly we were charged £30 on the last day for breakfast when we didnt have it. This is still to be resolved. Very disappointed with our stay. Location is great but the promised amenities left a lot to be desired.
