This hotel is so tired. It is on the main road through Dubbo when heading south, but this does make it tricky to get to some places in Dubbo without having to do u-turns half the time. The hotel shares a location with a bottle/alcohol shop and an abandoned fastfood building. There's no dedicated smoking areas so those who do sit out on the driveway and car park. This makes for an uneasy arrival as you navigate through groups of people standing around smoking and drinking.
The reception is a small kiosk to the left of the front door, and what the pictures don't quite capture is that the area they offer breakfast in is just opposite this desk at a very small seating area - maybe max seating for about 20 people.
Our room was on the first floor, which was accessed via fire stairs. Not sure if they have lifts because we were instructed to use them instead. The ceilings are all low, the hallways are narrow, and I counted more lights without covers on them than those that had them.
Our room was tiny. We had a room with queen bed and a bunk for the kids. That pretty much took up all the space in the room. There was a very small "desk" in the far corner of the room with a tiny bar fridge on the carpet underneath, and that was it. No chairs, so the only place to sit was on the beds. Didn't bother using the TV. The bathroom is in a front corner to the room beside the front door, and is a small ensuite sized space with a sink, toilet and a wetroom style shower space with curtain. The entire floor will get wet when you use the shower, so don't store anything in there that you want to keep dry. There is also a sign on the door that says the smoke alarm will go off with too much steam on it so to please keep the door shut when showering. This also stops the carpet from getting too wet.
The carpet in our room was very bad. It had big rips and chunks taken out of it. The walls were all dirty and had very obvious signs of damage. There was only one light in the room, a single fluro tube on the wall protected with a metal grill that made me feel more like in a jail facility than a hotel. The air conditioner was on all the time but I honestly didn't notice, there was next to no airflow. At least it was quiet.
Back to the bathroom - filthy. The tiles around the shower were half covered in mould. The floor wasn't much better. We also had a really strong sewage smell after using the shower and toilet, thankfully this was in the morning so we weren't subjected to it overnight.
We bought breakfast but didn't stick about for it. Evidently they don't set it up until 7am, which was way past when we wanted to be back on the road.
As for positives... the bed linen and towels were very clean and crisp and the receptionist was lovely.
So with that all said, if all you care about is a bed and a bathroom then go right ahead - otherwise - you've been warned. I know it's a budget hotel, but it shouldn't be too much to ask for a clean facility, especially for the price they're asking and other options asking similar.
