Fairly expensive but a very good hotel

The first impression of the hotel is amazement. The design is unusual with its Asian style of the buildings and interesting to look at, prior walking into the reception area via a long wooden bridge over a lake. Checking in is done in comfort as a welcome drink is offered and the staff come to you rather than having to stand in front of a desk. The beach is kept well groomed and clean, and ample shade is provided for the sun loungers. The licensed beach hawkers do not pester and are content to just have a chat. The dinner buffet is expensive and is themed averaging around C$70 p.p. per night (without wine), however the Indian restaurant was the best. The only odd quirk of this hotel, is that in spite of the several thousands of Dollars for accommodation for our 6 days stay in our room, they insisted in charging each day, for the daily packet of instant coffee in your room. This was not made clear, but we soon stopped that as soon as we found we had to pay several dollars per day for a few cents packet of instant coffee. Quite insane, and was not expected from a quality hotel to nickel and dime over such a petty issue

Average stay but great kids area

I’ve stayed at Sofitel a few times, most recent Jan 2024, the time before that was 2019 and the hotel still looks exactly the same, quite dated. I was hoping in 5 years especially since covid the hotel would have changed a bit. The room was a decent size for a family of 3. We had a nice balcony with a view of the ocean. The staff were all lovely, they gave my toddler a cute toy. My toddler absolutely loved the kids area, I have to say this was a such a big space and the days we were there it was quite empty. My son had the best time playing in there and had an even better time in the kids pool. The food was ok, I would say nothing special but I had the best heart of palm salad there for lunch. We also dined at the teppanyaki one night which I thought was decent but my husband did not enjoy and thinks he got food poisoning from there. Overall we had a decent stay. I think the hotels good if you have kids. I also think the hotel could do with some renovations.

We had an amazing service with a very warm welcome and great experience. The food was delicious. The bed and pillows were the fluffiest ever! All this and the cosy atmosphere and nice people lead to us having a great stay. We will definitely come back!

We had the most fantastic 10 night stay at the Sofitel- our second visit in 5 years from London. As a young family with an 18 month old, we found the hotel catered very well for families. The kids club is extremely well presented and managed. Our room was beautiful with a stunning view of the beach and sunsets each night. The room cleaning and also turn down service each evening was discrete and perfectly clean. Thank you Gaitree :) When we wanted some quiet time, the adults only pool was simply gorgeous. The hotel also offers complimentary activities such as snorkelling in the reef and a glass bottom boat experience daily. The food experience is outstanding- whether at the main restaurant with themed dinners, breakfasts or even for cocktails at sunset, we have never had a better consistent experience. This hotel takes their food very seriously and our daughter was also very happy! From check in, to housekeeping, to F&b to the spa team, the service was excellent. We have left completely relaxed and rested and will definitely be back. Thank you amazing Sofitel L’imperial team! We are very impressed and we travel, a lot! A true 5* experience.
