Best breakfast buffet you will ever experience!

This is a lovely hotel with attentive and kind staff and the beds and rooms are very comfortable. The star of our stay though was the breakfast buffet, the absolute best we have ever experienced anywhere in the world! So much variety it was overwhelming, and it was all so good! The tour of the bunker was interesting, but no need to go out of your way to take it, do it if it is convenient to do. The pool bar has a great atmosphere, however our cocktails were, lets say, interesting. But again, wonderful staff, everywhere in the hotel.

Great location, excellent facilities and top notch service. Our room was not huge but was well laid out and had everything we needed. It was in good condition – and things like the double glazed windows to minimise noise were really appreciated. The buffet breakfast is excellent, with a wide selection of food. The courtyard pool, bar, etc are very relaxing, particularly as a peaceful space in the middle of Hanoi. I found the pillows in the room too soft, but within 15 minutes of a call I had a nice firm pillow delivered to the room. Plentiful drinking water is provided to the room and regularly topped up, which was much appreciated since the temperatures were very hot and humid during our visit. It is not cheap but it is very hard to find fault with the Metropole. Worth a mention – the hotel offers guests a free tour of a bunker complex under the hotel, which was used by hotel guests during the American war. We found the tour very interesting, and hearing the stories of that time from our guide, who was a small boy living in the city at the time, was very moving. You need to book this tour with the concierge earlier in the day.

Booked a premium Opera wing room but upon checking in was asked if I wanted to upgrade to the renovated Heritage wing for $91USD including breakfast. Decided to upgrade as the flight tomorrow morning was 9.30 and breakfast starts at 6am so was doable and I wanted to see how the renovated rooms were like. Anyway I prefer the modern opera wing better as the rooms were brighter and this was due to the color of the furnishing and the size of the windows. But as always the rooms were spotless and immaculate.

How fun to finally stay at the Metropole and watch the world go by at one of its inimitable outdoor sidewalk tables. Even better if there is a gentle rain! So many people who travel have stayed here, it’s fun to join this group. But, to us the OLD section is essential to stay in. NOT the new shiny, noisy, marble laden addition. This lobby and section seem loud and raw. We preferred the old staircase up and down, a lovely walk each day to the gorgeous breakfast each morning. Very helpful concierge found me a tailor nearby to copy a few linen dresses. Great service.

Dear BoysieW, We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience of staying at the Metropole and we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed being a part of the diverse group of world travelers who have graced our hotel. It brings us immense joy to hear that you relished watching the world go by from one of our iconic outdoor sidewalk tables, especially during a gentle rain. We understand and appreciate your preference for the charm and character of the old section of the hotel, and we are thrilled that it added to the unique experience of your stay. We are pleased to hear that you found our concierge service to be helpful in assisting you with finding a tailor nearby to copy your linen dresses. Providing excellent service and personalized assistance to our guests is what we strive for, and we are happy that we could meet your expectations in this regard. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and being a part of the rich history and legacy of the Metropole. We hope that your memories of your time here will be cherished, and we look forward to welcoming you back for another memorable stay in the future. The gold standard, ever so slightly tarnished

In downtown Hanoi this is an island of tranquillity in a sea of tumult but what makes the real difference here are the staff who have made the Metropole the apex predator in Hanoi’s hotel scene for over a century. In both service and facility, this is a class operation that, save for one irksome flaw, would be hard to fault anywhere in the world. The good: we spent one week in a Prestige suite then two one-night stays in Grand Premium rooms during a month of travel around the north. The suite (#243) was conspicuously clean, quiet, comfortable, extravagantly spacious and elegantly decorated. Everything expected was there and it all worked as expected. The super-size king bed was comfortable and the linens plush with enough pillows for each of us to find a favourite. The commodious bathroom was tastefully furnished, well-appointed and it all did what was expected of it. The included WiFi connected easily and worked well on all our devices throughout the hotel. The included breakfast was available in a couple of the hotel’s restaurants, but we opted for the Club Metropole Lounge which provided a complete and well-serviced buffet of international staples with eggs & accompaniments to order. The same Lounge offers complimentary afternoon teas and daily cocktails later in the afternoon. We dined in all of the hotel’s restaurants during our stays and the outcomes were always up to expectations – or better. Save for the considerable extra space of the suite, much the same accolades apply to both Grand Premium rooms we spent nights in. The not so good: it was hard to finger much here but the heavy duvet covers in all rooms that we stayed were excessive in Hanoi’s steamy spring weather and necessitated setting the AC temperature unduly low to ensure a comfortable sleep. The bad: there shouldn’t be anything here but the bathroom mechanisms that prevent the hotel’s toiletries from being purloined also makes them very difficult to use. Truthfully, their very inclusion is a veiled insult to the vast majority of trustworthy guests and brought to mind some hotels in China where a stocktake of your room or suite is made at checkout to ensure you haven’t made off with the furnishings. None of which we’ve ever returned to.

Dear Tedstravelblogs, We appreciate your detailed feedback on your recent stays at Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi and are pleased to hear that you had a positive overall experience with our facilities and service. Your commendations about the cleanliness, comfort, and elegance of our Prestige suite and Grand Premium rooms, as well as the exceptional service provided by our staff, are greatly appreciated. We are delighted that you enjoyed the spacious accommodations, comfortable beds, well-appointed bathrooms, and the variety of high-quality dining options available at our hotel. It is gratifying to know that the WiFi connectivity met your expectations and that you were pleased with the breakfast and other complimentary services provided, such as the Club Metropole Lounge offerings. We take note of your feedback regarding the heavy duvet covers in the rooms, and we apologize for any discomfort this may have caused during the warmer weather. Your comments regarding the difficulty of using the bathroom toiletries due to security measures are also duly noted, and we will review this aspect to ensure a more seamless guest experience. We value your feedback as it helps us to continually improve our services and facilities to meet and exceed the expectations of our guests. Thank you for sharing your experiences, and we hope to welcome you back to Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi in the future for a more flawless stay. Sincerely, George Koumendakos General Manager Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi
