Karlstad – the delta city. In Sweden, Karlstad is known as the ‘summer city’ because it receives more hours of sun than almost any other place in the country. Here you can take a trip in the archipelago, go fishing, canoeing, water skiing or just take a dip in the middle of town or at one of the large number of open-air bathing places. Do pay a visit to Sangrundsparken, with its new sun terraces and expanded gardens. Other cultural highlights in and around Karlstad include Alstersherrgård, the beautiful birthplace of Gustaf Fröding, one of Sweden’s most beloved national poets and just an hours drive north of Karlstad is Mårbacka, the home of Selma Lagerlöf.
