Located on the east coast of Central Sumatra, Jambi lies on both sides of the Batanghari River. Encompassing an area of 53,435 sq km, almost 60 per cent of which is forest, the province is home to a large variety of fauna and flora and is an exhilarating place for active and adventurous visitors. Almost one-third of the province is covered by the Barisan Mountains in the west, whose spurs thrust eastward, forming deep ravines and valleys. The mountains are surmounted by volcanic cones including Mount Masurai (9,623 feet) and Mount Sumbing (8,228 feet). Must see attractions include Kerinci Mountain, Telun Waterfall, Tiangko and Segirincing Caves, Hitam Ulu Crater and Bukit Duabelas National Park.
