| | When a musical accent gives way to sound systems...
Everyone outside! At sidewalk cafes on the Quai de Rive Neuve, people of all ages and cultures mix together. Words become a hum, glasses of pastis are emptied. Everywhere around the Vieux Port and the Ïlot Thiars, seats are at a premium. Up for it?
The future of rub-a-dub, rock, etc. Marseille prides itself on being a breeding ground for new stars on the French music scene. Massilia's and IAM's successors flock to La Plaine. Formerly a hangar, the Poste à Galène has a knack for digging up new talent. Excellent programming promises great stuff at the not-to-be-missed Espace et Café Julien. |

| | The bay of Marseille Drawing a less eclectic mix than La Plaine, the Corniche aux Goudes area on the way to Callelongue is a touch more select, with a few posh bars that are more like lounges.
Club crawling If you're hip, you have to go to the Bazar. Hotter still and seriously into the Marseillais night scene is the Trolleybus. The Métal Café, on the other hand, is more VIP.
Outdoor club Highly anticipated by ravers, the Docks des Suds is taken over once a month by local DJ's, rocking the place with House or experimental electro music. |
