Sheer drop on the horizon The network of trails in the Parque Estadual do Caracol or Parque das Sequóias make you want to hike. The most fearless will head for the Parque dos Aparados da Serra; the trail lies along a gorge with a sheer 600-meter drop that snakes through the forest.
Garden of Eden Plan a walk through Brazil's last remaining Araucaria forest, on the plateau of Fortaleza canyon. In the jungle to the west, you may see tapirs, pumas and different species of birds. |

|  | Saddle up ! The Rio Grande do Sul region is heaven for riders. In Gramado and its environs are many equestrian centers where horseback trekking trails start.
Rock climbing This sport is most often done in national parks. The closest to Gramado are the Parque Estadual do Caracol and Parque das Sequóias.
Schuss away In winter, the Gramado ski resort (altitude 800m) draws crowds of skiers. Beginning in June, you can tear down the trails on skis, snowboard or bobsled. |
