Welcome
- Be sure to head to the Bonne Mère forecourt to get an amazing view of the harbour.
- See pétanque players strike a ball from five metres away, and hear that satisfying crack! The best way to enjoy the game is from a café terrace (in the Vieux-Port or Cannebière areas) with a glass of ice-cold Ricard.
- Be sure to discover Marseille’s “villages”: the narrow web of streets in the Panier area, the Borély Park, the Pharo gardens or the Prado Park… -
See, visit, discover…
Marseille is the home of stunning religious edifices such as Notre-Dame de la Garde, the Sainte-Marie cathedral, the Sacré-Coeur basilica, the Saint-Victor Abbey…
Historic monuments are also on the menu, with for example the Saint-Jean and Saint-Nicholas forts and of course the Château d’If on its rocky island in the bay. It is well known in Marseille that all roads lead to the sea…
Sports fans will be thrilled by the Stadé Vélodrome, and culture-vultures by the Palais Longchamp; and those with an interest in architecture can visit the Palais du Pharo. Everyone has something to look forward to in Marseille. -
Tips from Accorhotels.com
- When to go?
The best time to visit is obviously in time for the Marseille Festival in mid-June, but there is also the Fiesta des Suds in October. Otherwise, come in December to experience Christmas in the southern style.
- How to get around?
Easily accessible bus, tram and metro lines run throughout the day. There is an excellent taxi service, but many visitors resort to bicycles as it is a great way to discover the city.
- Good deals:
All museums’ permanent collections can be toured free of charge on Sunday mornings.
