The Sebel Kirkton Park Hunter Valley: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Disappointing"

11th February 2013, Kim C, Sydney, Australia

We booked this hotel, as we had stayed here before, and had a good experience, and we are also accor club members, so got a good rate. Unfortunately this stay was not as pleasant as in the past, and although the rate was good, i probably would not stay again, and choose somewhere else. It was just the "little" things that make up an experience that let the hotel down this time. We were staying in the manor house, these rooms were far less pleasant than others i had stayed in, older styles, dated, and small. The pillows were so hard, i woke up with a head ache, the shower was tempermental, choose from cold pr scalding, one day housekeeping forgot to replenish all the towels, and left us with NO towels, so had to request and wait for someone to be available to bring down, there was no do not disturb sign in the room, and the wall mounted hair dryer, was lazily just put in the cupboard, as opposed to being wall mounted, so you had to plug it in and let it hang there. Overall all the little things and horrible room did not impress us this time around - we would have thought at least being part of the accor club would get you a decent room - next time we will stay somewhere else, as opposed to being "hit and miss" whether it is a good stay or not.

Overall a very pleasant stay. As the weather was unkind to say the least, the indoor pool and spa facility was a great option for whiling away a few hours. Our room was very comfortable. We upgraded to deluxe and it was worth the extra. We had dinner at the Infuzions restaurant...with my Accor Advantage plus card it made for a well priced meal. Sadly the duck dish I had for main course was almost inedible as it was tough and undercooked...a real pity. My partner enjoyed his steak. the dessert was especially good though and sort of made up for the main course. the service was good overall. I did mention the dissatisfaction with the duck course but got no feedback although the delightful waitress said she would tell the chef...not sure if she did. The only other downer was that we parked in Car PArk 1. As we arrived in torrential rain and had to get to our room some distance away without cover' we gathered our gear and ran to the covered walkway as fast as possible. the next morning I discovered that my car was covered with sticky sap from the tree above which was nigh impossible to remove. I finally soaked it off with wet towels and cloths (it took all day and night). I did ring the hotel and their response was that there are notices pinned on the trees to say that sap may drop in wet weather. As we had to exit our car and run, even seeing such notices was unlikely. I have suggested that reception mentions this to guests on their arrival as I would not like to think others would have to put up with such inconvenience. We had a great night there to celebrate our anniversay, but my couple of gripes did put a bit of a mozza on it. Still would go back.

The only area I was not impressed with was the service in the restaurant. It was not full and yet the staff seemed to concentrate on one large party table. The waitress was not conversant with the wine list and when we asked for the dessert menu, we waited and it did not arrive, we paid the bill and left without having dessert.Overall the hotel and reception staff were very good and I would stay again and recommend it to others.

The Sebel Kirkton Park Hunter Valley: 2.0 out of 5 stars "Not good enough"

7th January 2013, GNA777, Sydney, Australia

Having planned a special trip for NYE, the stay was rather disappointing. Good location, but reputation of hotel is questionable.. Room was not clean, balony filthy, toilet seat broken, hair dryer not working, cord on kettle didn't reach power point (unless you placed it on the floor). Room not serviced until 4.00pm on second day. Staff seemed disinterested. Gardens lovely and beautiful pool, but spa very dirty. Not at the expected Novotel standard.

The Sebel Kirkton Park Hunter Valley: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Great escape"

26th December 2012, Brisbane Australia

This is a perfect place and escape, enjoy all the attractions of the Hunter valley and relax. The surrounds are a perfect sight of relaxation, with vineyards and ponds as well as beautiful gardens. It seems that time stands still. And this is enjoyable, but be aware of the restaurant hours, room service stops quite early, and if you distract yourself, specially in the summer, when daylight expands late into the evening, you may find yourself without an option for dinner.
