Myself and partner are just back from a three night stay in Hotel Burdigala, Bordeaux. From the moment we arrived, staff could not have been more welcoming and courteous. The hotel rooms were spacious and luxurious, with Roger & Gallet toiletries provided, which are a personal favourite of mine. Breakfast was fabulous with freshly squeezed orange juice and fresh coffee... any requirement was answered here. The rooms are stylishly kitted out and we wanted for nothing as there's a nespresso machine provided. The Hotel provided a turn-down service which was also a lovely touch with complimentary water provided on each day of our stay. The hotel is located a very short walk from the main shopping district, about 8 minutes. Overall, we had a most enjoyable and relaxing stay and I would certainly stay here again as I think the staff in particular were exemplary. This hotel was delightful. The staff that greeted us at the reception were extremely welcoming and everytime we spoke to someone on the desk they were just the same. Our room was very modern (looks like it had been newly renovated) very nice. We booked the base room. We ate in the restaurant which also did not disappoint. The meals we had were first class (very delicious). We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. Would stay there again.View management response »

"Impeccable Service at Freshly Renovated Hotel"

We rented two rooms at this intimate luxury hotel, one for me and the wife, and the adjoining the room for my two twenty-something daughters. We were delighted and would stay here again. Concierge/Front Desk service here is at Four Seasons level, about as good as I have ever experienced. Well-staffed, efficient and helpful staff. They made and changed fairly complex restaurant reservations for me at various Bordeaux and Libourne restaurants without any problems, and did so with great competence. I felt I could trust them with any task I gave them and it would be done correctly. Hotel has had a very recent Kimpton-like renovation, tres chic and plush in all areas, with modern and expensive fixtures. Toilet was a bit cramped, located across from the shower in a small room without ventilation. WiFi worked just fine, but a bit slow at peak hours. Bed was very comfortable, and room was quiet and impeccably clean. Breakfast was included in my package, had the usual assortment of croissants, rolls, juices, breakfast meats and was quite enjoyable, especially in the quiet and civilized surroundings of the main dining room. Air conditioning worked fine. The only real issue with Burdigala is the location on the edge of downtown, which makes getting to the vineyards in Medoc and the right bank area a hassle, especially during rush hours, due to the city of Bordeaux's horrible traffic, made worse by the cities tortuously timed traffic lights, which seem designed to frustrate drivers coming form any direction. Rush hour traffic can make the usual 45 drive turn into a 1.5 hour nightmare. Even though the Le Lac area is sterile and ugly, some people find it preferable if they have to visit the vineyards primarily. Personally, I would stay at Burdigala, and time my visits away from rush hour, as it is worth the traffic aggravation to stay at such a posh hotel.
