Right in the middle of central Wellington everything is within walking distance, the room was very small and the quality of the room was average, and it could have been cleaner. We only stayed one night on our way overseas so it was fine for us as we were there only a few hours. We stayed some were else on the way back.View management response »

"Promised so much"

Another trip to Wellington and another chance to try a different Accor property. This one promised so much. Two nights in my favourite city. Paid extra for a one bedroom with harbour views. Arrived later than expected by an hour. Had requested the hotel to hold a park for me but that didnt eventuate. Why bother having a special requests section on your booking if no-one reads it!Ok so arrive in room. Wow glad I booked a one bedroom because they are real small. My partner and I dropped our bags and went to grab a late dinner. Windy Wellington was living up to her name but the whistling around the windows was starting to get annoying. Maybe some seals need replacing because if I pulled on the window the whistling stopped.Next morning pulled back the curtains to admire the (paid extra for) view and what a disappointment. The windows were filthy! The bathrooms are "tight" and the shower heads need replacing so you get a shower, not hit with a solid stream of water like turning on a garden hose. There was a TV wall bracket in the bedroom but no TV. when questioned about this, the answer was "we only supply one tv per room sir". felt a little ripped off again. Good points, clean (except exterior windows) great location. This hotel is handy to downtown shopping (Lambton Quay), waterfront and the buzz of Courtney Place. You need to get this hotel on a deal otherwise in my view it is way overrated.Avoid top floor rooms as the noisy elevator motor is very close.View management response »

"Great place for a city stay"

These apartments are a place my wife and I have stayed many times previously, however, the recent move to become part of the Accor group is a good one. The hotel appears to have had an upgrade and the results are great. Rooms here are small, we had a one bedroom apartment, but adequate with kitchenette. We were able to prepare our own cooked breakfast each morning. We were on the fourteenth floor and the views were outstanding! Eating breakfast on the edge of the world each morning! This is convenient to all activities in the city which are all within easy walking distance. Recommend getting upper levels if you can and on the Victoria Street side as you will get great harbour views. Our room was 1403, so maybe the upper 03 rooms are the ones to try for.View management response »

I was EXTREMELY dissappointed with our accomodation. I stayed in 4 other accommodations whilst in New Zealand. The Mercure was the most expensive out of all of them so I expected a lot better. The room was smelly, sooo smelly as soon as you walked in it was the first thing we noticed. I think the smell came from the carpet but can't be sure. It had good heating, extra blankets good bed. But too many disappointing aspects. The lock on the door was missing/broken. The stove was grotty. Maybe a fresh coat of paint would brighten it but wow get rid of that smell. Handy to everything in central Wellington. Good basic rooms. A little noisy at night (no double glazing) but not too bad. Shower powerful and hot. Bed too soft for my liking. Tv high up on lunge wall so hard on your neck.Tiny but functional kitchenette. Helpful staff.View management response »
