Mercure Edinburgh City - Princes Street Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "One night stay whilst passing through"

19th February 2013, CWG81, Southampton, United Kingdom

We booked this hotel for it's great location on Princes Street and it didn't disappoint. 5 minute walk from Waverley Station and central for shops, bars and restaurants. We paid extra for a castle view although didn't stay long in our room and the same view is available from the bar/restaurant. The extra charge for late checkout was great, could stay until 6pm. Disappointing supply of tea/coffee in our room and had to request replenishment. Overall a great stay and would recommend.

Mercure Edinburgh City - Princes Street Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Value for money"

18th February 2013, Newcastle, Australia

The hotel is in a good location, conveniently close to the main station and the sightseeing bus starting point. There are great views towards old Edinburgh and the Castle. The evening meal at the restaurant wasn't very good. One lift was out of action and the remaining lift servicing 7 floors was slow. The hotel is worn and in need of refurbishing but has an art deco feel.

Mercure Edinburgh City - Princes Street Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Conveniently located and priced"

18th February 2013, Carnoustie, United Kingdom

You get what you pay for in this hotel. Right on Princes Street. Don't bother with the up grade for a castle view just sleep in the room and get out and about. The room was surprisingly noisy due to the very thin walls but apart from that had the usual mod cons of a tourist hotel in central Edinburgh. Reception staff were attentive and the restaurant has some of the best views of the caslte and gardens - hence don't bother with the room upgarde.

Mercure Edinburgh City - Princes Street Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Lovely Stay In Edinburgh"

31st January 2013, Owen O, Warrington, United Kingdom

Only 5 mins walk from the station and overlooking Princes St. What more can you want from a hotel. It was clean comfortable and the hotel staff were very pleasant. We did have an issue with hot water from the shower which was looked into very quickly and although unable to be fixed immediately, we were offered another room or the use of the one next door. High plaudits for Christina on reception who sorted out my surprise flowers, which looked even more fantastic than i could of imagined. Thank you every much!We would certainly recommend staying here.

Mercure Edinburgh City - Princes Street Hotel: 4.0 out of 5 stars "location location location"

29th January 2013, Sulasstaff, Inverness, United Kingdom

This is a fantastically sited hotel. Next to Jenners and on top of Marks and Spencers. Its decor is tired (very eighties) - must have been lovely as furnishings are oak and brass. Mercure have put in new drapes and carpets and probably will re-decorate soon - the old name of the hotel is still on the glass of the front door so they must have only taken over recently. However if you want a warm, clean room with a firm bed and soft fluffy pillows and a nice hot shower then this ticks the boxes. Appreciate the tea and coffee making facilities. No fridge and no safe, but we were only there for a short break for the museums and this was fine by us. Reception staff lovely and smiley. Excellent value for money.

Mercure Edinburgh City - Princes Street Hotel: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Weekend Break in Edinburgh"

12th January 2013, AdelieP, York, United Kingdom

My boyfriend and I bought ourselves a weekend in Edinburgh as our Christmas present to each other. We had a really good time sampling some of the tourist attractions of Edinburgh, all of which were in easy walking distance as the hotel was on Princes St and only one block away from Waverley Station. The room was small with a horrible damp smell from the bathroom. It was also very hot. The radiators were not on, so we had to have the window open (in January!) and, even then, we slept really badly.Service was good, but I didn't like how the security cards - which we needed to operate the lifts as well as enter the room - ceased to work on the last morning before we had checked out. I did like the 1200 check out time, which fitted in well with our return train journey at 1230.

Mercure Edinburgh City - Princes Street Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Great location, friendly helpfull staff."

10th December 2012

I have stayed in this hotel a few times now, and, have always found the staff so nice!, the location of the hotel for shoping, Christmas market, or, for a night out, great!!! The rooms at the front of the hotel is worth the small suplement, they are good size rooms, and, perfect for people watching. Keep up the good work!!!

Mercure Edinburgh City - Princes Street Hotel: 5.0 out of 5 stars "Excellent location - will return!"

7th December 2012, kfq61, Cheshire UK

We usually stay at the MacDonalds 4* Roxburghe Edinburgh each December but we felt over priced themselves this Christmas so we decided to look elsewhere. The Mecure offered us excellent value for money and we were also upgraded free of charge as we were celebrating a special anniversary. We stayed on the 6th floor and had superb views overlooking the castle and all the Christmas markets. Initially I was worried it may be noisy but we weren't disturbed at all. Mattresses, pillows and bed linen were very good quality which ensured we had a good nights sleep. The location of the hotel was also superb for our Christmas shopping...every time we had our hands full we were able to nip back to the hotel and drop everything off! The hotel is right in between M & S and Jenners. We drove to Edinburgh and after some research we stayed in the long stay car park at Waverley Railway Station, which was only a 10min walk away. On Saturdays and Sundays the full day parking charge was £4.50. Just remember though to get your ticket stamped at reception.Tip: I would ask to stay where possible on a higher floor to avoid noise from Princess street. All in all a great value hotel and we will return next December!Thank you for a great stay!
