« Understaffed wedding weekend »

The staff that were on shift during my stay e, or my best friend's wedding, struggled admirably and d best, under difficult circumstances. The food had run out on the Friday night. All that was left were fish finger sandwiches by 19:30pm...and they took up to two hours to arrive. The hotel restaurant ran out of BREAD FOR BREAKFAST! How is that possible or forgivable, when there are supermarkets in the area? The day itself was marred by understaffing, youngsters were falling asleep and nearly fainting at their tables, through lack of food - everything was so late coming out. I was told that there was a new head chef and "ordering issues", as a result. Regardless of this, as a stunning wedding venue, the management severely let us down. More bar and waitering staff were clearly needed. It was only due to the patience and easy going nature of the guests that the big day wasn't ruined. The rooms, however, were spotless - so they obviously have a great cleaning team.

Top hotel for scenery.Menu much improved.Staff very helpful.We have stayed there many times and will keep coming back.A fabulous part of the country.peaceful ,restful break.T would recommend to anyone and have had friends join us and enjoy the break.

« 2 night stay dinner 1st night hotel break »

This was my wife's and I second stay at this hotel and they didn't disappoint us. Booking in was quick and easy with the young man being very polite and well mannered. We booked our table for 7pm that evening and made our way to our hotel room. Everything was as expected, room was clean & tidy, teas, coffee, milk and sugar were supplied and the bed was huge. Went down for dinner at 7pm was welcomed and shown to our table in a very nice part of the hotel. Waiter was polite and friendly and took our order for drinks then starters and main meal, which when the meal arrived was very tasty, we both enjoyed it and then we had dessert, although we were both full when we had finished. Both mornings again, staff very polite and friendly, showed us to our table so we could help ourselves to the buffet breakfast again had everything we desired. The waitress kept our table clean from plates or cups we had finished. Although the hotel was not overly busy there was a few other guests there. Booking out again was quick and easy and we were asked if we had enjoyed our stay, which we agreed we had and we confirmed they would be seeing us again in the near future, which we will. Thanks to all staff at Mercure Newbury Elcot Park Hotel for our enjoyable stay.

« Elderly couple one night stay. »

A wonderful location, staff very friendly and helpful. Dinner was excellent, breakfast less good, as we prefer the continental style, pastries available were small and cold. On the hot breakfast side there was a large choice but had obviously been out a long time and kept warm. The room and beds were very comfortable, but there was a noise all through the night which we discovered in the morning was due to the sash type windows rattling in small gusts of wind. This was easily solved by pushing a small wedge of paper in the small gap between the windows.

« Disappointing »

First impression was good but soon went downhill. The restaurant service was very poor. Slow does not cover it. Breakfast items over cooked. Either dry or barely warm. I had better at premier inn. I hope the Mecure management take notice

Same selections of overpriced and not great quality meals every visit..Restaurant ..now cramped and in old conservatory.Great views.Bar prices much too high.Rooms of good quality and staff are excellent and very helpful
