"Chester Visit - February 2013 - Clean & Friendly"
18th February 2013, pooly_monkeyhanger, York, United Kingdom
Just an overnight stay. Clean and comfortable. The walls must be made of cardboard as it was quite a lot of noise from people walking and doors opening and closing.Reception area, restaurant and bar all clean and looking refurbished.Didn't use the Sebastian Coe gym.Harvester nearby for a cheaper food and drink option.Glad I used vouchers and didn't pay the 95 GBP p/night.

"Excellent Hotel"
24th January 2013, Sandra487, Washington, United Kingdom
Excellent hotel and spa. Room was very good, all the little extras that make it special. Spent 2 nights, one with the KGB deal but felt they needed to be more aware of what the offer was in the restaraunt. Didn't eat there the second night as felt it was quite expensive for what was on the menu. Booked our breakfast when we got there and found it much cheaper than prior booking. All in all a lovely weekend and would highly recomend it.

"Good value"
12th November 2012, Teresa_Green799, Nottingham, United Kingdom
I've stayed here before whoch was mainly why I was using the hotel again. I was staying in Chester overnight for a shopping trip with family. The room was clean and comfy. Room sevice, although I didnt use it, seemed a reasonable price. My sister forgot her toothbrush and we were given a complimentary brush , which was really handy.Breakfast was really good with all you could need food wise. From full cooked to cereal and porridge.Definately would stay here again and would recommend.

"Decent Hotel"
29th October 2012, MWB19, Cheltenham, United Kingdom
Room a good size clean provided with everything you would expect. my room was on the outside adjacent to the road so there was some traffic noise. No Air con so was quite warm and couldn't open the windows due to the noise. Staff very friendly and efficient, food was of good quality, beer expensive!

"Mercure Chester East"

Good location for visiting Chester £1.70 ea on Park & Ride bus or 30-40 minute walk along canal. Large free car park. Internet in room bundled with movies expensive at £19.99 per day. Special offer at £5.99 but make sure this appears on your bill as need to click £19.99 in your room! (was charged £19.99 for 20 minutes surfing on second day!) Internet free in lobby/bar area. Good leisure facilities kept very clean at the time of our visit. In room, no restaurant menu (had room service menu), no wardrobe (open hangers) no extra bedding (although not required), no safe. In restaurant, food taking account of portion size was expensive when compared to local pub food, but not when compared to other Mercure hotels. No free drinks offered at check in despite having Gold card and booking through Accor web site "Summer saving and free Pimms on arrival". Info TV by reception good idea.

"Perfect break"
25th July 2012, Ian1432, Lancaster, United Kingdom
Great location - handy enough for the city centre (£1.70 return on bus during day & £5 taxi late at night) but far enough away to relax & park for free. Really nice hotel & very friendly staff. Everything clean & nothing too much trouble. Bar & restaurant probably a bit pricey but there is a fantastic Harvester less than 10 minutes easy walk down the road. Could not ask for more!

"Shame about breakfast"
21st July 2012, average_guy304, walsall
Stayed 2 nights on a summer break offer . The restaurant meal was that good the first night that we returned the second night instead of using local restaurants unfortunately the wines are totally overpriced but the beers are reasonable. The staff overall were friendly and helpful except that the bar seems to be manned on a "last resort" basis.. Some one would turn up to serve if they had nothing else to do. No permanent bar staff and very little in the way of smiles in that area. The first morning breakfast was fine, but the second morning was a total fiasco with staff running around , seemingly unsupervised, or possibly untrained . 20 minute wait for tea and coffee to be served. To be honest, we enjoyed our stay in the main, but a bit more attention to efficient service would have made it all the better.

Management responseDear Trip AdvisorThank you for your recent review of the Mercure Chester Abbots Well Hotel on Tripadvisor.comI was pleased to read that overall you enjoyed your stay but disappointed to that you were not entirely satisfied. The recent recruitment of a strong Food and Beverage Manager, will I’m sure pay dividends in terms of breakfast and dinner service and I hope when you next visit you will see the benefit of this.Once again, thank you for your feedback and we look forward to having the pleasure of welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.Yours SincerelyJames Lake

"Mercure Chester East Hotel"
30th June 2012, Swansea, United Kingdom
The rooms are in need of some updating to bring then into 2012, although the room did have a flat screen TV. The bed was not very comfy as it is 2 single beds clipped together,so there is a small gap between the beds. Not up to the usual standard of a Mercure brand hotel, (although they have not long aquired this hotel from another chain).Hope they spend some good money to upgrade the rooms soon. The staff were very helpful.Breakfast is around £10 per person if yoy book room only, but there is plenty of parking and you are very near to the park and ride system into Chester.

"Service"
11th June 2012, Chris725, Leeds, United Kingdom
The Hotel was busy and obviously did not have enough staff to manage at peak periods in the dining room at breakfast and evening dinner. It was in a good location next to the park and ride into Chester.

"OK for 1 Night"
6th June 2012, SueMChepstow, Chepstow
Average Hotel, hard to believe rated 4 star. Rooms are extremely small but adequate.Good content at breakfast although it was evident the cooked selection had been hanging about for a long time - the black pudding was rock hard and totally inedible.Main disappointment was the overall darkness of the Hotel, more lighting especially in the dining room urgently required!!

Management responseDear Trip AdvisorThank you for your recent review of the Mercure Chester East Hotel on Tripadvisor.comI was please that the hotel suited your requirements for your stay but disappointed that we did not wow you in the dinning room. We have recently started a new Head Chef and I have passed on your comments to him about your concerns at breakfast, which he will address. I am shortly having a meeting with our lighting contractor to discuss the way forward with new technologies no available to us and I will be sure to mention your concern about the light level through the building and in the restaurant.I would hope that that has not put you off a return visit to the hotel and that we could have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the hotel in the future.Yours SincerelyJames Lake

"Explore Cheshire"
10th May 2012, Harrogatetravel
The hotel is a short drive out of town but offeres a sizeable car park and a quiet location. The room, though a little tired, provides comfortable and spacious accommodation. A cooked buffet breakfast with a good choice of food was included in the price. The only problem we encountered was on checking in - at 5pm, our room was not ready and we had a 30 minute wait. Otherwise though, a good value hotel, well placed for exploring Chester and surrounding area.

Did not pay the Hotels Full Tarriff price, therefore at the reduced rate including the nice Breakfast and special 3 course Evening Meal and free drink included,it was very good value. We also made good use of Leisure facilities on site.Considering the extreme cost of staying a night at hotels in this country this was excellent all round. This was our first visit under Mercure Hotels and found no difference except for the staff uniforms to our previous visits to the hotel.

"Small room in need of refurbishment"
23rd April 2012, Beemer-Widow, Goole, United Kingdom
Our room was small, the central heating did not work and we had an electric heater provided but it was difficult to control the room temperature with this. It was either freezing or red hot with nothing in between. Apart from one chair the available seating was utilised as a bed (sofabed) so for a family with small children it was not ideal. The travel cot was placed beneath a window but since the curtains were not long enough to hang below the sill we ended up having a very early morning as our toddler woke soon after dawn broke. The bathroom floor tiles were almost devoid of any grout as it had all broken up. Finally we had a nice view of builders junk whch was left on the flat roof just below our bedroom window. Because of these points it failed to meet our expectations of a four star hotel.
