The hotel staff are entirely excellent - friendly and centred on helping. The relatively few things that get in the way of an excellent score are not the staff's fault - the shower flow is always minimal, the keys often don't open the room door.

Where do I start, the images say it all. Bathroom filthy and moldy, the room was in desperate need of a refurbishment and good clean. The towels were thin and the whole stay was uncomfortable. We had no water at all on the Wednesday morning, when the shower did run on Wednesday night it leaked everywhere. The lady behind the bar was uninterested and it took ages for her to serve (no one else around.) For £100 a night it was an absolute joke. Unfortunately it appears Mercure lost their quality and this needs closing down and a refurb. Avoid avoid avoid. I’ve emailed Mercure for a refund and currently waiting their response. The water issue was highlighted to the reception staff.

Staying at this hotel for a business trip at the Bolton Stadium and we’ve had business meetings all morning in the bar. Irene served us tea and coffee at the bar this morning and really couldn’t have been more helpful. She was cheerful and professional. Thankyou Irene!

Brief one night stopover

Late evening arrival, phoned ahead to enquire what time the kitchen would close as I needed a meal but was told that it would be shut by the time of my arrival at 8:30 pm so made arrangements to eat elsewhere but checked in before driving to the nearby restaurant. On arrival, even though I'm a Silver member, I was not given a welcome drink voucher as I usually get, even though my All App showed that I was entitled to one. Didn't really matter as after eating, when I arrived back, the bar was already shut by around 10pm! I would expect longer dining and bar hours at a three star Hotel! The room was adequate and clean, as was the bathroom. Not having power sockets near the bed is an inconvenience these days as everyone needs to charge their mobiles overnight and almost everyone uses them for their morning alarm, luckily, I had a fully charged Power Bank at my disposal! I used the bar area to work on my laptop on the following morning after checkout (11:00 which I do not like, I much prefer and will usually book a hotel a hotel with a 12:00 checkout if there is one nearby). The staff are very friendly and helpful and when I explained that I didn't get a welcome drink voucher the previous evening, the bar staff allowed me the first coffee I had whilst working, free. I have stayed at this hotel for many, years, admittedly less frequently of late but I still like to stay here and would recommend to fellow travellers, provided they don't have a late-ish arrival!
