"Short midlands break hotel"

We found the hotel excellent. The location good and ideal to visit local places of interest. all the staff were always extremely helpful and polite. The rooms were clean and tidy. We would have not hesitation of staying there again in the future.View management response »

"Don't have a room near the top of the stairs"

Whilst the hotel is fine, if not a little old the worst thing must be having a room by the top of the stairs. Every time another guest opens the door it slams against the wall of the room and you get awoken with a thud. Food was OK best part was the friendly staffView management response »

I am slightly puzzled by Accor UK. In France Mercure is towards the top of the order, bettered only by Sofitel. In England they seem to be taking over very ordinary 2 to 3 star hotels but not doing much about the rooms or the food. As far as the Goldthorn is concerned, I was perfectly satisfied by the room, a bit short on luxury but warm and comfortable. The food was pretty bad. The soup has so much white pepper in that I could not finish it and the steak was seriously over-cooked. There is no way that a medium rare steak should be hard and produce a gravy with no trace of red. A French hotel group really should do better than this with a steak. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and helpful.View management response »

"40th Birthday Surprise"

Dealt with Alison from the start who made everything so simple and covered every item or concern very professionally and dealt directly with me as this was to be a surprise party for our daughter on behalf of our son in law. Everything went so smoothly and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating to our needs. Some of the guests including ourselves stayed the night & the rooms were great (although hotter than I like it!) followed by a great breakfast. Thank you Goldthorn.BobView management response »

"Excellent Value, staff and stay"

I stayed again as this is my hotel of choice in the area for a night with business. Staff on reception welcoming and helpful. Good room and clean and bright. Excellent large bed for a good nights sleep. Breakfast good choice, the only thing I would change is a fresh fruit salad would be welcome.
