Not what you would expect from an Accor Hotel. Arrived to find a dark and unwelcoming car park and, to be completely honest, it didn't get much better once I got inside. The whole place has seen better days and is in dire need of some investment. The room I was allocated was a decent size and the wifi connection was one of the best I've had in a hotel, but the rest of it was extremely disappointing. The bathroom was something out of the 1970s with a cracked basin, worn out taps and an uncontrollable shower that managed to get the water over the screen. The bed was OK, but not particularly comfortable and breakfast was adequate. Not an experience I'll be repeating next time I'm in the area.

We spent two nights here, using up Accor points. Abysmally tatty and uncared for rooms, with bathroom plumbing falling apart. We were shown to a room with a permanently dripping shower and a view of the garden shed. The staff were pleasant and helpful, happy to re-room us, but the offered substitute was barely better (though with a view). Gym was extensive but virtually every machine damaged, the exterior was weed-ridden and unloved. Public interior areas were good quality, the staff friendly and helpful, and the breakfast very good. But someone from Accor should take a close look at this establishment - at present it's seriously undermining the Mercure brand. (We understand from talking to staff that it is under new ownership - one cannot but hope that they intend to invest some money to improve things).
A real shock to stay in a Mecure that's in such poor condition. Would have needed a total refurbishment 10 years ago. Filthy carpets, mirrors corroding etc and poor service to cap it off. Definitely won't be back. Cannot understand why Mecure is putting its name to this hotel and damaging its brand.

I have stayed at this hotel from time to time in the past and the general decor has improved significantly. There is a gymnasium as a real bonus together with a pool although at the timeof my visit it was out of action. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food I had for evening dinner was a disappointment; although when questioned the staff claimed the meals were all made fresh the rump of lamd had the characteristics to me of being cooked earlier and then reheated - it was not as juicy as it should have been. It was presented on a bed of good mashed potato but with no other vegetables - they were extra on this meal (but not on others offered on the menu ) all rather strange. The breakfast was good in that kipper fillets were available which is good to see - together with all the usual full english breakfast ingredients. The bedrooms were good with an extra easy chair - and the place was cosy. If you get a room on the front you may be disturbed by the regular trains just across the lawns.

Toilet-roll holder was broken and bathroom floor dirty. No sherry, ginger or crisps in bar. 'Rare' steak cooked through but supplement was waived. Very noisy night with partygoers outside bedroom. Staff good.
Great Hotel, comfy spacious room, food first class, Staff nice, efficient and friendly. Don't expect the same of the Health Club, its lost its sparkle, No staff in attendance, steamroom out of order, sauna out of order, I rest My case. However, I repeat .... Hotel was First Class

First time I've stayed there and had booked at short notice. Nice hotel, I arrived very late but was made welcome. The room was big and comfortable and the wifi worked well. Breakfast in the morning was brilliant. I will stay there again and recommend to friends.
Staff at check in were pleasant and helpful. Our room was spacious, clean and simply furnished. The bathroom was somewhat dated, but everything worked well. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant where the atmosphere was pleasant and the staff attentive. The bar area was also comfortable. I discovered that the hotel was previously in the Focus Hotel Group and is now a Mercure franchise. I think there is work to be done to bring the hotel up to the standard I would expect of the Mercure brand. The outside area gives a very bad impression on arrival. The car park is overshadowed with tall trees and overgrown hedges and gives a feeling of insecurity. The hotel building and adjacent leisure wing look very run down. CCTV coverage in the car park would be almost impossible. An opening up of the whole area would be a great improvement.

I totally agree with your comments about the garden, we have the gardener visiting next week to sort this out, we simply have not been able to keep up with the growth following the heavy rain and sunshine, I do apologise. Hotel had great staff and plenty of parking although the exterior and interior is a bit dated and could do with a refresh. Bar area was small but adequate and you can sit outside. Would defo stay again.
Overall the hotel was OK but a bit tired. Could not change the shower temparature as the control was broken. Staff were generally friendly but not very attentive. I spent nearly 10 mins waiting for fresh milk at Breakfast after pointing out that the jug was empty. Was left standing by the breakfast buffet with no apology when the milk actually arrived. Also had to get up to ask for hot food at breakfast as none of the waiting staff came to take my order despite not being busy and looking in my direction on numerous occasions.

The hotel wasn't at any point in time worth to be called an Accor Hotel. The food was not good, the rooms old, and the service not very friendly. I like Accor Hotels but this hotel simply doesn't meet the standard.
