sadly , the room we were given was dark and dingy with tea stains up 2 walls and over the bedside table where someone had obviously knocked over a mug of tea . The skirting was black with dust , the net curtain was stained and filthy and the toilet seat was hanging off on one side - we couldn't bring ourselves to take off our shoes and unpack . We were given only one other choice of room by a helpful young man in reception but this was on top of the restaurant and the flat roof outside our 'grubby' window was a mass of extractor fans which screamed and whirred loudly until just after 10pm . Breakfast in the restaurant the next morning , sadly , also turned out to be a big disappointment . For a full hotel , the amount of food put out was shocking . Small rectangular ceramic dishes containing 4 eggs , 6 pieces of bacon , 6 sausages etc . People were having to ask if the staff could get a few beans or another bit of bacon . You felt that you should'nt be eating it because there was'nt enough for everyone . Sadly , we were glad to leave , and despite being conveniently just a couple of miles away from the family we were visiting , we will not be staying again . We transferred to a premier inn the next night , it was heavenly , the room was super clean ,The breakfast was plentiful ,the staff were smiley and extremely polite and , it was £20 cheaper .
Many thanks for your review I am sorry that it wasn't up to standard our housekeeping team ordinarily receive very positive feedback. The small dishes at breakfast at breakfast were recently purchased to ensure that breakfast was constantly refreshed and not large dishes that become dry and unappetising I am sorry that you had to ask to get these topped up they should of been refreshed by the team frequently.
Bath was rusty and general decoration of bathroom was tired. There were no instructions in the room on how to operate the heating system. Tourist information book in room was dated 2013 and information in reception was also out of date. Noisy guests above were active until 2.30am (if was a Premier Inn I would have got my money back) Prices were high because of the Grand National in that area. Good Breakfast but dinning room was also tired.
room was a bit shaby could have done with painting, the hotel was overall nothing special, the breakfast had lots of choice and was hot, the breakfast staff made the hotel..... they were great. the towels were not very clean, not enough clothes storage, rather small rooms.
Good hotel with good staff. Nice room and excellent breakfast. Stayed four nights over new year 30 December 2015 to departure 3 January 2016. Visited cheshire oaks outlet village which is near the hotel and we'll worth a visit
We have used this as a base for visiting relatives in Cheshire and roundabout on 3 occasions now. It is fine for a standard 3 star hotel. Unfortunately let down by poor service at dinner this time. Wine list was requested when the starter was cleared, but we had to remind the waitress when the main course came. Then the drink didn't appear until we had finished the main course. there only seemed to be the barman serving drinks to the tables, whilst waiting staff were hardly rushed off their feet.
Stayed as very convenient for family in Chester and visiting Cheshire Oaks. Th pool and leisure areas were great. Rooms were little tired and a little noisy but great value and pleasant. Easy to get to and parking free.
picked up online £99 pp for 2 nites stay, full english, soup sandwich lunch, 2 course dinner and drinks beer wine and soft 7-11pm, coffee all day. Hotel good, staff VERY friendly, leisure centre ok. We had room on 3rd floor wardrobe half boxed in solid so difficult to use. No drawer space so had to leave stuff in case. Fortunately a short stay.
This was the first time we have used Mercure. The room was warm, comfortable and met all our needs. We were made very welcome at breakfast and my request for scrambled eggs rather than full english was made fresh and served pleasantly by 'John'. We were there for a 'family problem' so did not use the other facilities at this time but we will return.
Ok but a lot to be desired! No sausage or mushrooms at breakfast,no morning papers on day one,wrong ones on day two! Changing facilities for changing at pool very poor,room was not serviced till 3pm. Why has everybody got to like John Smiths? No other choice other than lager!
On finding this hotel in 2007, we keep on returning ,I find the staff most welcoming and helpful. The hotel is dog friendly (we never heard a bark) . And with the pool and restaurant really enjoyable.
Hotel looks really nice from outside, but rooms are quite small. Double bed was a bit narrow for 2 people needs, and the room itself (especially the bathroom) seemed to be worn out and could use a refurbishment. On the other hand the staff were very friendly and it's location is superb. Also the bar is open late which is nice. Nice addition is a parking that doesn't require any tokens to enter/leave. It has a nice pool. I didn't like the need of providing vehicle reg. number upon checkin - as I drive rental cars I don't remember that and had to actually go back to car park to check.

Stayed here thanks to fantastic B&B offer. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good choice for breakfast. Hotel is located on edge of quiet residential area and handy for travelling into historic Chester, going to the zoo or exploring north Wales
Room was clean, well laid-out with plenty of space for hanging clothes,etc. Bed was comfortable. The only negative regarding the room was that the kettle lid was broken on our arrival and one of the tea/coffee mugs was cracked (this was replaced the following morning after use). Staff at breakfast time were helpful, efficient, polite and smiling; they are to be commended!! Arrival Receptionist was barely adequate, but on departure there was a more mature lady attending Reception and she was superb; making eye contact, smiling and helpful. Our only other negative comment is the intrusion of piped music in the public areas of the hotel - but that is a personal view about something which no doubt other visitors like!
