Fantasic hotel, unlike other Mercure's as its in an old Fish smoking factory and cigar factory. Lots of the original features and machinery have been kept. The service from the moment we arrived to the moment we left was excellent. We had a super room in the old cigar factory at the back which was huge and very quiet. All the rooms are different. The staff couldn't do enough to help. Breakfasts were great, if you wanted cooked it was cooked fresh and not under heaters. Excellent. Greatly positioned in Mechelen with lots of atmosphere outside the hotel, bars, cafes and the river. Just a shame the hotel doesn't have its own car park. The public car park was only across the river but rather expensive. Perhaps the hotel could try and make a deal with the car parks company? If in Mechelen again would certainly stay there and recommend to everyone.
Hotel was well situated within the town centre and as such ideal for sight seeing, shopping and socialising. Located in a busy square with restuarants and pubs, the room was very quite even though partying went on late into the night. Staff were polite and knowledgeable about the local area and spoke very good English. This was a benefit as I had to call them before my stay to ask about parking. This hotel does not have a car park due to its location, but there is underground parking within 50m. The cost was reasonable at 18 Euro per 24 hours. Room and bathroom were clean, tidy and well maintained. No problem with sleeping on the hard, but comfortable beds. Breakfast was adequate, but in line with most Mecure hotels which I have stayed at, expensive.
