"VERY Disappointed. Much preferred Ibis Barajas"
20th September 2013, bluey249, Blakeney Glos
Seldom in over 45 years in the travel industry have a found an hotel which traded on its trade name only to fail at almost all the usual criteria for an International hotel. All furcoat and no knickers. Despite the fact we booked well in advance and i hold a Sofitel etc card our room was not available till 3.25PM. A complimentary "shandY" served grudgingly was no compensation. To say we were disappointed with the room was an understatement Whoever designed the "wet" room should be fired. we had to summon help to find out how to work the "shower". A strange contraption with 3 shower heads. Like so much about the room there were no instructions. It took 20 minutes for a young porter to show up after 3 calls. I would guess it used to be a bathroom before the shower was installed. Despite the fact we had booked and had confirmed a double room Room 144 at the far end of the corridor was a"twin". hanging over the bed were strange hanging lights. The breakfast room was a farce. Again the designer ought to be sacked. The Buffet is best descibed as barely adequate for 4 star hotel. We spent ages walking back and forth to locate our various needs. The toast machine was antiquated. The bread had to be put through twice. The machine which provided the hot water was dodgy and again no instructions taking considerable time. on the second morning I had to wait 10 minutes for the fried eggs-all sunny side up. I'm still waiting for the cooked bacon. As with so much about this hotel management was none existent. Staff were under severe pressure resulting in rather desultory attitude and very poor. I do not accept being OVERBOOKED is a valid excuse.

Great location in central Madrid. When we checked in the room type we had booked was not available, so we were upgraded to a suite. Rooftop pool is very impressive. All staff very professional & helpful.
"Worth the money"

Hi,We have stayed 6 days in Madrid and we initially booked the smart room. It is good to know that the hotel has 2 wings, the old wings if for indeed low cost price and the new one, with better rooms. We had a look in our room and gosh it was ridiculously small!!! So we head back to the reception and the Desk proposed us a standard room for 15 € a night. We took it and where not at all disappointed. This room was up to a 4 star hotel, spacious, modern with amenities. We were lucky to have the vertical garden view, which basically allow you to sleep with the window open all night. A real lux in Madrid. We were not annoyed but noise in corridor, although I think that wall are a bit thin.Breakfast is really good, loads of variety. I cannot complain. However I am not a 'morning' eater so maybe some will complain but I found it quite satisfying for me.The rooftop is nice, view on part of Madrid, maybe not the most breathtaking but sufficient to take pictures! The swimming pool is a bit small but nice as well. During our stay we haven't found the swimming pool or rooftop too crowded, we always had place to seat or to lay. However it is true that it is a bit small. Good to know at dawn the swimming pool becomes a trendy bar with a brilliant conception to cover the water. You feel like Jesus walking on water!Location, really good close to Gran Via for shopping addict and close to most of the best sightseeing.I am then recommending this hotel!Bryan

Stayed there during holidays for 5 nights. Everything went well, though one day i had to ask for cleaning of the room from the reception. Pool area is ok with nice views, but maybe little crowded. Awesome breakfast.
"Good location but noisy"
31st July 2013, SBFlygirl, London, United Kingdom
Great location for a few nights in Madrid with easy access to La Gran Via and Sol. There is also a metro and Dia supermarket right on the doorstep. Cafe opposite does a great coffee & tostada if you are on a budget. Room unforunately was not very clean and also had a badly stained carpet. My room on the second floor facing the street/plaza so it was also incredibly noisy. Guess thats why its such good value for central Madrid.

near to centre and all the major sites with fab pool. Street noise audible but then you are right in the middle of town. Very quiet air conditioning. Easy to reach via metro. Would definitely stay there again.
"Good value for money"

Stayed in this hotel for one night. The location is very good, staff helpful, sumptous breakfast (inexpensive for the quality) nice and good value for money. The hotel is close to a business center and has good restaurants and shops nearby. It is also conveniently close to the tourist bus stop. Excellent place to discover this beautiful city. Will come again.

Recent stay was great, the staff were always friendly and helpful. One small issue that the A/C wasn't working in the room, and in 40 degree heat, sleeping was a problem.Would recommend to another and happy to stay with them again.
"Quick drop-in to Madrid"
25th February 2013, CezaryWarsaw_Poland, Warsaw, Poland
The San Domingo Mercure in Madrid is very conveniently located in the vicinity of the Centre of Madrid but also of the Old Town. Very near to the subway station (basically across a small street) connecting directly with the airport (ca. 40 min.). The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast treats all tastes. Although the double room that I was checked-in was somewhat smallish to the standard at Mercure's that I am used to, but the over-all impression is very positive.View management response »

The location was great, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The room booked by the tour operator was a standard room, which was not acceptable to us--much too small--so we upgraded to a superior room. The superior room was very nice and roomy. The oncly chriticism is that the bathroom had not one hook to hang anything, Not one single hook behind the door or on the wall to hang towls, etc. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay--four nights--very much and would recommend the hotel to our friends.View management response »

We had a great time at this hotel! The hotel was very clean and quiet. It was very nice to have the hotel bar near the lobby as well as the restaurant in the basement. We spent each of our 3 nights down there relaxing and unwinding from our day. The staff is very helpful and nice! The hotel is close to everything - we were able to walk everywhere!View management response »

"Great location, nice staff, but inconsistent and sometimes noisy"
11th January 2013, Tousson, Los Angeles, Kalifornien, USA
Rooms vary greatly; besides the different designs and furnishings, some are on the street side, with lots of traffic noise (even on high floors), and some with faults such as bad plumbing (water takes ages to drain) and so on. However, staff is kind enough to offer room changes if there is any problem. Room service is available but extremely overpriced: i.e. 22 Euros for a bowl of vegetable soup! Beds and pillows not bad. There is an interesting bar in the basement of the hotel.View management response »
Management responseDear guest,Thank you for your feedback. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and we treat all of our comments with the utmost seriosness and we will be investigating this matter accordingly.Best regards,Antonio Núñez,Marketing Manager
"Could be much better"

I think Mercure acquired this hotel recently and invested in some renovations to the rooms. However, the overall felling is a bit disappointment, you can see that wash room needs update. We had several issues with the room:1. Got injured from a nail that was hiding in the carpet2. The safe was not working3. The fan was broken 4. Had a problem with a sinkOn the positive side the hotel promptly answered our complains and a service man was dispatched and fixed the issues. One other issue, breakfast: the price is 16 euro for a person. It is very expensive, especially when just across the street you can eat very tasty breakfast paying less than 50%. I think most of the residence of the hotel did do soView management response »
