Mercure Madrid Santo Domingo: 1.0 out of 5 stars "VERY Disappointed. Much preferred Ibis Barajas"

Seldom in over 45 years in the travel industry have a found an hotel which traded on its trade name only to fail at almost all the usual criteria for an International hotel. All furcoat and no knickers. Despite the fact we booked well in advance and i hold a Sofitel etc card our room was not available till 3.25PM. A complimentary "shandY" served grudgingly was no compensation. To say we were disappointed with the room was an understatement Whoever designed the "wet" room should be fired. we had to summon help to find out how to work the "shower". A strange contraption with 3 shower heads. Like so much about the room there were no instructions. It took 20 minutes for a young porter to show up after 3 calls. I would guess it used to be a bathroom before the shower was installed. Despite the fact we had booked and had confirmed a double room Room 144 at the far end of the corridor was a"twin". hanging over the bed were strange hanging lights. The breakfast room was a farce. Again the designer ought to be sacked. The Buffet is best descibed as barely adequate for 4 star hotel. We spent ages walking back and forth to locate our various needs. The toast machine was antiquated. The bread had to be put through twice. The machine which provided the hot water was dodgy and again no instructions taking considerable time. on the second morning I had to wait 10 minutes for the fried eggs-all sunny side up. I'm still waiting for the cooked bacon. As with so much about this hotel management was none existent. Staff were under severe pressure resulting in rather desultory attitude and very poor. I do not accept being OVERBOOKED is a valid excuse.

Mercure Madrid Santo Domingo: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Great location"

Great location in central Madrid. When we checked in the room type we had booked was not available, so we were upgraded to a suite. Rooftop pool is very impressive. All staff very professional & helpful.

Mercure Madrid Santo Domingo: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Worth the money"

2nd August 2013, Bryan_Lux, Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

Hi,We have stayed 6 days in Madrid and we initially booked the smart room. It is good to know that the hotel has 2 wings, the old wings if for indeed low cost price and the new one, with better rooms. We had a look in our room and gosh it was ridiculously small!!! So we head back to the reception and the Desk proposed us a standard room for 15 € a night. We took it and where not at all disappointed. This room was up to a 4 star hotel, spacious, modern with amenities. We were lucky to have the vertical garden view, which basically allow you to sleep with the window open all night. A real lux in Madrid. We were not annoyed but noise in corridor, although I think that wall are a bit thin.Breakfast is really good, loads of variety. I cannot complain. However I am not a 'morning' eater so maybe some will complain but I found it quite satisfying for me.The rooftop is nice, view on part of Madrid, maybe not the most breathtaking but sufficient to take pictures! The swimming pool is a bit small but nice as well. During our stay we haven't found the swimming pool or rooftop too crowded, we always had place to seat or to lay. However it is true that it is a bit small. Good to know at dawn the swimming pool becomes a trendy bar with a brilliant conception to cover the water. You feel like Jesus walking on water!Location, really good close to Gran Via for shopping addict and close to most of the best sightseeing.I am then recommending this hotel!Bryan

Mercure Madrid Santo Domingo: 4.0 out of 5 stars "Nice hotel"

31st July 2013, TurFin, Turku, Finland

Stayed there during holidays for 5 nights. Everything went well, though one day i had to ask for cleaning of the room from the reception. Pool area is ok with nice views, but maybe little crowded. Awesome breakfast.

Mercure Madrid Santo Domingo: 3.0 out of 5 stars "Good location but noisy"

31st July 2013, SBFlygirl, London, United Kingdom

Great location for a few nights in Madrid with easy access to La Gran Via and Sol. There is also a metro and Dia supermarket right on the doorstep. Cafe opposite does a great coffee & tostada if you are on a budget. Room unforunately was not very clean and also had a badly stained carpet. My room on the second floor facing the street/plaza so it was also incredibly noisy. Guess thats why its such good value for central Madrid.
