Seldom in over 45 years in the travel industry have a found an hotel which traded on its trade name only to fail at almost all the usual criteria for an International hotel. All furcoat and no knickers. Despite the fact we booked well in advance and i hold a Sofitel etc card our room was not available till 3.25PM. A complimentary "shandY" served grudgingly was no compensation. To say we were disappointed with the room was an understatement Whoever designed the "wet" room should be fired. we had to summon help to find out how to work the "shower". A strange contraption with 3 shower heads. Like so much about the room there were no instructions.It took 20 minutes for a young porter to show up after 3 calls. I would guess it used to be a bathroom before the shower was installed. Despite the fact we had booked and had confirmed a double room Room 144 at the far end of the corridor was a"twin". hanging over the bed were strange hanging lights. The breakfast room was a farce. Again the designer ought to be sacked. The Buffet is best descibed as barely adequate for 4 star hotel. We spent ages walking back and forth to locate our various needs. The toast machine was antiquated. The bread had to be put through twice. The machine which provided the hot water was dodgy and again no instructions taking considerable time. on the second morning I had to wait 10 minutes for the fried eggs-all sunny side up. I'm still waiting for the cooked bacon.As with so much about this hotel management was none existent. Staff were under severe pressure resulting in rather desultory attitude and very poor. I do not accept being OVERBOOKED is a valid excuse.
