"Staying at Port Stephens Salamander Shores."
19th September 2013, Pether_13, Geelong
Great location, friendly staff and rooms with magnificent views. Just lacked a little polish, the main meals in the restaurant arrived before we finshed the entree, breakfast and the coffee machine had been broken for some time, plus the buffet ran out of items, tap in the room dripped all night and the bed was so soft it was uncomfortable. This is the list of complaints, but on the other side, the place had a lot going for it. On balance I would say average.
"Nice spot away from Nelson bay"

Every staffs we meet at the hotel are very friendly. Quite location with a great Thai restaurant near by ( 3 mins drive ). The only down side is when next door have a shower you can hear this noise which I can't tell where is from. Then thru the whole night, I think is the fridge that is making the noise. Otherwise I will definatly stay there again next time I go to Port Stephen.View management response »

"Three day stay in mid July."

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the staff were particularly friendly and helpful. The complex is looking a bit tired and the driveway/parking areas need to eb fixed. Also the rooms are in need of an upgrade to bring them in to 2013.We'd stay again and recommend it. Thanks.Philip and Carole castleView management response »

An upgrade of the property is currently being addressed, in particular with regard to the driveway and room features. We hope to see you again soon at Salamander Shores.

We arrived about 6pm. Found a car park after dodging through the broken asphalt road. Receptionist was polite and organised. She advised she'd upgraded us to a higher level with a view. Also advised about restaurant which we'd planned to use. Noted decor of whole area very outdated. My husband used the toillet in near the bar. Advised me that it had the appearance of a moderately rough bar. Drove up to accommodation area.Used lift as advised. Lift had a very musty smell. Found our room on 2nd floor. Room clean but it too had musty smell but not as bad as the lft. Air con did not work. Not heating so we used extra blankets from cupboard. Bathroom exhaust fan did not work. Old TV. Basic selection of tea/coffee sachets. Restaurant menu did not look particularly appealing and as it was in the same small area as the bar we decided to use the Bowls club across the road. Next morning arose to enjoy the view. Some view certainly better than first floor but mainly obscured by trees. Rainbow lorikeets on balcony lovely. Grounds neat but kerbsold, painted and tired looking.Checked out. Noted bar/reception area by daylight. Guttering dirty, Overall a big disappountment.View management response »
Management responseMany thanks for the feedback on your recent experience. We have excellent service orientated staff at Salamander Shores and I will pass your comments on to our reception team. An upgrade of the property is being addressed, however specifically we are currently receiving quotes to update the driveway and the exterior painting of the property. I’m confident on your next visit you will notice some pleasant changes.
"using my complimentary night"

I was a little disappointed when I couldn't get into the room as the door was stuck fast! With a certain amount of 'shoulder' and juggling bags I got in. Same problem trying to get out!! And again... the bruise on my arm tells the story. Yes they did something fairly quickly when I asked. Then the handbasin tap wouldn't turn off without some 'manipulation'.. and the menu is fine if you want big steaks and chips...not a lot variety, or of choice for vegetarian.Staff were very helpful and polite. I wouldn't want to pay full price for this delightful but tired old venue. Things haven't changed much in many years

The location of Salamander Shores was good, with fantastic views of the Bay. Rooms are comfortable but needs to be updated. The building was showing the age of the establishment. Parking needs to be looked at, as there are many rooms but few parking spots near the rooms. Which was hard when you have a physical disability. Overall it was a good spot to stay for a night or weekend.

Hotel is a great location. Sleeped well, beds great. Rooms a very dated and layout of the hotel re getting to and from the reception, bars and eating areas very complicated and very hard for disabled people.
"Great location near the beach and jetty"
13th February 2013, Sharon O, Brisbane, Australia
Salamander shores was good value for money, the breakfast was enjoyable, the rooms were spacious and the beachfront location meant that there was plenty of opportunity for walks. However the bed was too soft, and the interior very tired. The glass sliding door to the balcony was almost impossible to open and the air conditioner and tv were quite old and outdated. There were a lot of quite noisy guests the night we stayed there. It's good value for groups or families but not for people who prefer peace and quiet.

The hotel is a great acquisition for Accor, but still needs considerable repairs and maintenance to bring it back from years of neglect by former owners. Service staff were friendly and helpful. Meals were delicious and facilities (like pool) were clean and we used them. However, the pool's wooden decking needs resurfacing very soon. Bathrooms were clean and tidy, but mirror trim and bench surface stained. Having a spa, balcony and decent view were fantastic! Old box-shaped TV not a turn-on!Not sure we got our free (or discount) meal that we were entitled too, but we forgot our Accor memb card which didn't help. So, overall, yes, we'd go back again but feel even with our extra day the place was still over-priced at present. Try us again!
"Kodak in Port Stephens"

The Staff at this hotel are friendly and efficient. Room was a good size, clean and neat.Dinner and breakfast were enjoyable. Free parking near to building. A good location for families with Port Stephens at your doorstep. We experienced some problems whilst in the room which were immediatley resolved by staff. Only ten minutes from Nelson Bay with great eateries, beaches and bays to explore. Kodak
